To measure the inrush current, technicians can use either a hard-jawed clamp meter or a flexible current probe. Only meters that offer an inrush button can measure inrush current.
There are two techniques for measuring small currents: the shunt-type and feedback-type. How to Measure Resistance with a Digital Multimeter
- Turn power to circuit OFF.

A basic oscilloscope consists of three different systems – the vertical system, horizontal system, and trigger system. Each system contributes to the oscilloscope's ability to accurately reconstruct a signal.
Inrush current is the instantaneous high input current drawn by a power supply or electrical equipment at turn-on. This arises due to the high initial currents required to charge the capacitors and inductors or transformers. The inrush current is also known as the switch–on surge, or the input surge current.
