The CTA, Metra, and Pace have announced a new app that will allow riders to pay for fares on all three systems using their mobile devices. The app, which will be available on iOS and Android devices, will allow riders to use their phone to pay for rides on all three transit systems using debit or credit cards.
Walgreens will begin offering Ventra cards at 159 locations shortly after the September launch. In addition to purchasing the Ventra Card at retailers, customers will also be able to add passes and transit value to their Ventra Card at these locations.
You can now use a credit or debit card to pay for your ticket on buses using contactless. Instead of paying with cash, you can pay contactless by placing your card or device on the yellow contactless reader.
New cards cost $5, but the purchase fee is waived when you order online and is refunded as transit value if you buy one in person and register within 90 days.

How-to: Riding the train
- Enter the station and pay fare. When you enter a train station, you can pay your fare at the turnstile or gate: simply touch your Ventra Card, Ventra Ticket or contactless bankcard to the reader on the top of every turnstile.

How-to: Riding the bus
- Find your bus stop and wait near the sign. Bus stops are usually located one or two blocks apart.
- Check the destination sign as the bus approaches (or read the one on the side when it stops).
- Ride.
Once you log-in with your Ventra username and password, here's how you add transit value. First, choose “My Ventra Cards.” Then “Add transit value.” Decide how much you wanna add. And tap “checkout.” Select your payment method.

Contactless smart transport cards are very simple to use. The card's smart card chip is a tiny computer that works with the fare payment system to keep track of your remaining ticketing value. You simply hold your card up to a reader, your fare is paid, and you can go on your way.
You can buy Paris Visite online and pick it up at one of several redemption points in Paris, or--more conveniently--you can purchase it at a Métro, RER, or SNCF railway station or at the airport upon your arrival.
Fares: Metro's base fare is $1.75. You can pay cash when you board, but you'll need exact fare as bus operators don't carry change. You can also buy and add up to $20 to a reusable TAP card. Reduced rates are available to seniors, students, and disabled riders.
Buying a TAP Card Just Got Easier

- Use a TAP vending machine (TVM) located at all Metro rail stations, Metro Silver Line and Metro Orange Line stations and at the El Monte Station.

LA considers free public transit.
You can pay for both Metro Buses and DASH buses with either cash or TAP cards. You must have a TAP card to pay for and ride Metro Rail. Each person has to have their own TAP card. You do not buy a new card each day.

Most lines operate from before 5am to midnight or later on weekdays, with service until 2am on weekends. Trains run as often as every five minutes during peak times, though you could be stuck waiting for 20 minutes during late nights. Use Metro's Nextrip service to take out some of the arrival time guesswork.
Metrolink tickets are good for free rides on most local transit services only. An additional fare payment may be required for express or other non-local bus service. Just show your Metrolink ticket to the driver or attendant upon boarding your connecting transit service.
*CTA/Pace 7-Day Pass and the CTA/Pace 30-Day Pass are valid on both CTA and Pace non-premium/non-subscription routes. A 30-Day CTA/Pace Reduced Fare Pass is also available for people who qualify for reduced fare with RTA-issued Reduced Fare Ventra Cards (RTA permits).
It's easy. Simply tap your card on the TAP target of the bus farebox/validator or station turnstile/validator. The validator will “beep” and display a confirmation that your card is valid. You are now free to board the bus or train.
