According to the Sony PSP manual, all of the following types of memory sticks will work with the device: Memory Stick Duo. MagicGate Memory Stick Duo. Memory Stick Duo (MagicGate / High Speed data-transfer compatible)
The Memory Stick slot is located on the bottom-left edge of the PSP system. To open the Memory Stick slot cover, insert a fingernail or other small, flat object into the notch in the Memory Stick slot cover, and pull the slot cover out and away from the system.
Hacking your PSP will allow you to access a wide variety of custom made software. This software is called Homebrew, and it ranges from games to productivity programs. Hacked PSPs can also run emulators, which are programs that allow you to play games from other consoles on your PSP.
Here's How
- Insert a Memory Stick into the Memory Stick slot on the left side of the PSP.
- Turn on the PSP.
- Plug a USB cable into the back of the PSP and into your PC or Mac.
- Scroll to the Settings icon on the home menu of your PSP.
- Find the USB Connection icon in the Settings menu.
Navigate to the PSP's System menu and select System Update. Select Update via Storage Media to start the update. Alternatively, you can navigate to the Game menu and select the memory card and then the update. Press X to begin the update.
The current version of the software, 6.61, was made available on January 15, 2015. It is a minor update released more than three years after the release of the previous version 6.60 in 2011.
Connecting your Sony PSPâ„¢ to the wireless network
- On your PSPâ„¢ device, go to Settings and then select Network Settings.
- Select Infrastructure Mode.
- Select [New Connection].
- In the WLAN Settings screen, select Scan then press the.
- Select your wireless network name (SSID) then press the right button on your device.
Connect to the PSP with a USB cable and put BOOT. PBP in the folder PSP/GAME/UPDATE - it is important the the folder names are ALL CAPITAL LETTERS. Then, with your PSP charged (and preferably still plugged in to avoid battery glitches), go to the games section, select Memory Stick and then select your update.
Sony regularly released firmware updates for its PlayStation Portable system, and encouraged PSP owners to upgrade the PSP system software. All system software updates are backwards-compatible; that is, all games that work on system software version 1.5 will work on version 2.0, and so on.
Enter USB mode (as described above) and connect the PSP to your computer. Copy game files from your computer to the PSP memory stick folder to load them onto the system. Play the game. Play your new game by going to the "Game" menu and selecting the game that you want to play from your memory card.
When you format, all software and data stored on the Memory Stickâ„¢ media will be deleted and cannot be recovered. Data loss or corruption is the responsibility of the user.
Several models of the console were released, before the PSP line was succeeded by the PlayStation Vita, released in Japan in 2011 and worldwide a year later. Hardware shipments of the PSP ended worldwide in 2014; production of UMDs ended when the last Japanese factory producing them closed in late 2016.

Also, it is important to note that the older models of PSP (Version 1000) have a specialized headphone input which only works with certain headphone inputs. Currently, there are no Bluetooth dongles sold for these versions of PSP.
