The Proteus Design Suite is a Windows application for schematic capture, simulation, and PCB (Printed Circuit Board) layout design. It can be purchased in many configurations, depending on the size of designs being produced and the requirements for microcontroller simulation.
Proteus 8 Professional is a software which can be used to draw schematics, PCB layout, code and even simulate the schematic. It is developed by Labcenter Electronic Ltd.
Steps :
- Open Proteus ISIS Schematic Capture.
- Select the Component Mode from the left Toolbar.
- Click On P (Pick From Libraries)
- Add all the required components.
- Place the components on the workspace.
- Wire up the circuit.
- Click on Play Button on the bottom left to start simulation.
Proteus 8.9 - New Features. We are pleased to announce that Proteus 8.9 is now released. This version involves a file format change which is not backwards compatible with older versions of the software.
The download is around 600mb.
- Step 1: Download Library Zip Folder From Our Website. Download the Library Files zip Folder from our website, open it and paste these two files ARDUINO.LIB and ARDUINO.IDX files in to Library folder.
- Step 2: Done. Now open Your Proteus and Search Arduino.
- Step 3: Make Hex File.
- Step 4: Upload Code.
Proteus is not available for Linux natively.
The best way is to use virtual machine :
- Install a virtual machine like VirtualBox or VMWare on your Ubuntu OS.
- Install a windows OS inside it.
- Install Proteus on your virtual windows and use it.
ISIS is the software used to draw schematics and simulate the circuits in real time. The simulation allows human access during run time,thus providing real time simulation.

Software updates themselves are integrated into the News Panel of the Proteus 8 Home Page. Notification of updates will appear in the news and information of the home page and you can activate the download and installation of the new software release directly.
Download all library-related files from GitHub.
- Download the Zip file.
- Create a new project in Proteus.
- Choose where to save your project.
- The workspace where you can place components.
- Set your mode to component mode.
- Select Arduino UNO, as you will be programming on this board in this example.
