Lone Scouts do not have access to Scout Book or Internet Advancements – it is the responsibility of the registered Lone Scout Friend & Counselor or the parent to submit periodic BSA Advancement Report forms.
Only four out of 100 Boy Scouts become Eagle, and only about 400 boys are registered as Lone Scouts in the BSA program world-wide.
Membership FeesIf you are joining Scouts for the first there is a one-time joining fee of $50 plus an annual Scouts NSW membership fee of $240, which includes personal accident and public liability insurance cover.
Developed in 1915, just five years after the beginning of the Boy Scouts of America, Lone Scouts is the BSA's acknowledgment that a normal Scout troop won't work with some young men. You could call Lone Scouts the BSA's original outreach program. Lone Scouts, as the name implies, do much of their Scouting alone.
You will need a minimum of 5 youth and 2 of these youth must have their primary BSA registration in the new unit. The size of a Scout troop can vary from as few as six Scouts to several dozen. Scout troops may meet regularly at a meeting place. In addition, some Scout troops are active in the organization of additional activities.

The Boy Scouts of America have announced that girls can now become Cub Scouts. Becoming a Cub is the first step on the way to attaining the Boy Scouts' highest honor of Eagle Scout. Beginning in 2018 girls will be allowed to join Cub Scout “dens†as the groups are called. However, they will all be single-gender.
On February 18, 2020, the National BSA filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection and is currently restructuring its financial situation.

Today, popularity in outdoor events has waned and membership has dropped. However, BSA remains the largest scouting organization and one of the largest youth organizations in the United States, with about 2.3 million youth participants and about one million adult volunteers.

- Logon to your my.scouting.org account (this is the same site that you take youth protection training)
- Click on MENU.
- Select the unit that you want to accept online applications for.
- Select APPLICATION MANAGER.
- Select YOUTH (in the middle of the screen)
- Select PENDING ACCEPTANCE.
It's easy to get started! Simply complete an adult application and submit it, along with the $42 annual registration fee (includes cost of background check), to your unit's leadership. They will guide you step-by-step through the process.
Girl Scouts is a great value! Dues start at just $25 for the membership year beginning October 1, 2021. Your girl can also start her Girl Scout adventure now through an extended-year membership. For $35, she can jump right into spring and summer activities and keep the fun going through September 2022.
The process of starting a new scout group is quite simple, but to be successful requires time, dedication and a motivation to help the young members achieve the most that scouting can provided. You will find that you will gain as much from being a Scouter (leader) as the young members gain from it.
The individual must be an adult, a U.S. citizen, and a registered member of the BSA during the period of time that the chartered organization designates this person as chartered organization representative. 3.
Annually the local council enters into an agreement with the chartered organization granting them a charter. This charter enables the organization or group to use the Scouting program under adult leadership they approve of in order to accomplish its objectives and to serve the organization's youth and families.
Linked troops are two troops — one for boys and one for girls — that share a chartered organization and may share some or all of the troop committee. The approach preserves the single-gender troop model while making things more convenient for families. Linked troops could meet in the same location on the same night.
Transferring Scouts to New Troop Units
- One way is to simply allow the Youth Application to process.
- You can manually move each Scout to a new Troop by navigating to that Scout Scout Membership > Current Membership and enter a date in the “Date Ended†field, un-check “Position Approved†and click Update.
