The ordinary Xbox One controller has a secret feature that lets it cheat on your console. Using a USB cable or Bluetooth (on controllers that are newer), you can easily use the Xbox One gamepad with any Windows PC.

To connect a PS4 controller to the Xbox One, use the CronusMAX PLUS adapter, which is one of the more reliable ways to pair the controller and console. Plug the CronusMAX PLUS into your internet-connected PC and it will automatically install the drivers.
PlayStation 4 controllers will work with a PlayStation 3 console, and when you use a wired connection, there is no setup involved. You can also pair a PS4 controller to a PS3 for a wireless connection, though the process of connecting the two devices is more involved.

The battery charges normally when the console is on and holds a charge normally. The battery will charge when plugged in, as long as I have my console turned on, but when I turn off my console the controller stops charging. I then have to turn on my console again and check the battery charge status.
