Chromebooks feature USB ports and SD card slots, however, which let you connect to external storage devices for those times when you need to access a file that you have saved not to the cloud but an external hard drive, thumb drive or SD card.

Most commonly found on a slew of Chromebooks, Chrome OS is more than a glorified browser. After connecting a printer to Cloud Print, you're ready to print from your Chromebook. You can either select File > Print in the menu bar or use the keyboard shortcut of Ctrl + P to begin a print job.
Open the Files app by clicking on the icon. When connected to your Chromebook, the device appears as a folder in the left navigation panel of the Files app. Click to place check marks next to any files and folders you want to copy. Drag and drop the selected items to copy them between the external drive and Chromebook.

The short answer is yes, you can use an external USB CD/DVD drive with a Chromebook. There are some major limitations to using a Chromebook external DVD or CD drive. External devices are limited as to storage of readable files, and music files are not, without drivers, which cannot be installed on a Chromebook.
To use an external storage device on Chrome OS, just connect it to your Chromebook and open the Files app. The drive will appear in the left pane of the files app, below Google Drive and the Downloads folder, which contains all the files stored locally on your Chromebook.
You can use an external CD drive on both your desktop and laptop. Insert one end of the USB cable into the external CD drive. Plug the other end of the cable into your computer's USB port. Allow the computer to install the drivers for your external CD drive.

First, download and install the software from the VideoLAN VLC Media Player website. Launch VLC Media Player from its Start menu shortcut. Insert a DVD, and it should rev up automatically. To install the DVD drive, complete the following steps. Remove the cover (see Removing the cover). Remove the DVD drive filler panel if it is installed. Locate the blue release tab on the rear of the DVD drive filler panel; then, while you press the tab, push the DVD drive filler panel out of the drive bay.
