According to a convincing new theory, Doctor Strange didn't just hand the Time Stone to Thanos in order to save Tony Stark, he did it because it's crucial to defeating Thanos. Thanos' arm and the Infinity Gauntlet are both severely damaged following the snap, suggesting the curse was designed to injure the Mad Titan.
Then again, the gauntlet was badly damaged after Professor Hulk used it and the resizing mechanism probably malfunctioned and for this reason, Captain Marvel simply couldn't use it since it was too big and wouldn't fit her hand. Also, Thanos destroyed the time machine in Ant-Man's van before anybody could get to it.
