Once you've taken a photo or video, tap the stickers button at the top of the screen and then tap the music sticker. This will open the Instagram music library where you'll find thousands of songs to choose from. You can search for a specific song, or you can browse by mood, genre, or what's popular.
If you can't add music to an Instagram Story or video, it might mean you live in a country or region where the feature isn't available due to copyright issues. Not being able to add music to an Instagram Story might also signal that you need to update your Instagram app.
How to Post Copyrighted Music on Instagram?
- ALWAYS GIVE CREDIT TO OWNERS! No matter what content you Re-post/share, you should always give proper credit to owners.
- Appeal if you want to use the Music!
- Make slight changes to the music!
- Use Copyrighted Free Music for your Videos!
The informal, unofficial rule of “fair use” is 10 % or less. If the song is at least 5 minutes long, you can securely use 30 seconds worth of the song because that would equal 10 % of the whole song.
As part of our licensing agreements, there are limitations around the amount of recorded music that can be included in Live broadcasts or videos. Music in stories and traditional live music performances (e.g., filming an artist or band performing live) are permitted.
The reason behind that saying is declaring and admitting that i am using but not stealing this music therefore citing that “I don't own rights to this music.” By saying this you are protecting yourself in case the real owner sees that you used it without saying it you can get sued legally.
Instagram is also reiterating that its policy around music usage includes unlimited use in Stories and when filming live music performances and posting those to the main feed. So if your video includes recorded music, it may not be available for use in those locations.”
In general, the permissions process involves a simple five-step procedure:
- Determine if permission is needed.
- Identify the owner.
- Identify the rights needed.
- Contact the owner and negotiate whether payment is required.
- Get your permission agreement in writing.
If the copyright holder is not the author, you have the option of giving the author credit.
- Look up all author and copyright information.
- Write the title of the song.
- Type the word “Copyright” or place a copyright symbol (the letter “c” with a circle around it) after the title.
- Write the year the song was copyrighted.
Instagram says that, if it realizes it made a mistake, it'll restore posts. Any appeal will be sent to a completely different reviewer than the one who made the original decision, in order to ensure that the posts are thoroughly inspected.

Just head to your app store and make sure your versions are current. Even if the apps aren't showing up in the Updates tab, be extra cautious and search the app in your store, to confirm it doesn't have any updates. A second explanation is you just don't have the update yet, plain and simple.

Choose a speedy VPN. I recommend NordVPN as it's super-fast, has great unblocking powers, and servers in all Instagram Music locations. Uninstall Instagram and install your VPN. Connect to a server in the US, UK, Sweden, Australia, New Zealand, Germany, Canada, or France.
