In the same Astrodome scene, you see Selena's sister Suzette Quintanilla playing the drums and Pete Astudillo as a background singer. In real life, Suzette sat out that concert because she was sick, and the background singer was not Pete, but Freddie Correa.
Selena's last public performance was in Bryan, Texas on March 19, 1995 at the old “Denim and Diamonds” night club, less than two weeks before she was murdered on March 31.
Tickets: Prices range from $40 to $200. Tickets are available at the Alamodome Box Office and Ticketmaster.com. Editor's Note: This article has been updated to reflect that Fiesta de la Flor, a two-day music festival honoring the legacy of Selena Quintanilla, was held in Corpus Christi for five years.
She's joined onstage by husband Chris Perez, brother A.B. Quintanilla and sister Suzette Quintanilla for the performance inside the Houston Astrodome. But it's not completely accurate. Suzette Quintanilla fractured her ankle and wasn't at the performance.
Selena Quintanilla-Perez was born on April 16, 1971 to Abraham, Jr. and Marcella Quintanilla in Lake Jackson, Texas, where her father worked as a shipping clerk for Dow Chemical Company. Abraham eventually gave up his music career to settle down and start a family.
The Quintanillas are Jehovah's Witnesses and their beliefs oppose using such treatment.
Though not a part of her public persona, Selena was religious and had begun to study the Bible. The Quintanilla family are Jehovah's Witnesses, and though Selena was not one, her Bible teacher was.
After the Quintanilla family confronted her about this, Saldívar bought a gun and fatally shot Selena on the morning of March 31, 1995. Although the healthcare team tried to revive Selena, she was ultimately pronounced dead due to hypovolemic shock and cardiac arrest.
Would Selena Quintanilla still be alive?
As Selena headed for the door, on her way out of the hotel room, Yolanda took out a gun and pulled the trigger, shooting Selena in the back and fatally wounding her. Selena was declared dead at Corpus Christi Memorial Hospital, just 90 minutes after the shooting, creating shockwaves across the nation.
If she were still alive today, Selena would be 49 years old.
