While the savings of the Crosstrek are appealing, both in starting price and fuel saved, they could easily be offset by the Forester's greater space for people and cargo, its slightly better safety ratings, and better standard equipment.

Subaru vehicles are great for camping and you don't even need a tent or buy a camping trailer. To open the trunk of the Subaru Crosstrek you will find a latch under the trunk itself and you will find a button on the main console dash to the left of the steering wheel. There will also be a latch on the inside of the trunk in case you need to open it from there.
Ground clearance is the same, at 8.7 inches, so both vehicles elude obstacles that snag mortal vehicles.
Crosstrek seems like a pretty solid choice, though I have not been able to rule out the Outback for a few reasons, the biggest of which being size. It seems the Crosstrek is pretty small when comparing it to other small/mid-sized SUVs (22.5 cubic feet in trunk, 51.9 if laying the back seats down).
