12 inch singles will usually sound much better. Since the grooves are farther apart on a 12 inch single it can be mastered at a higher volume. Also many 7 inch singles were made if styrene instead of vinyl. These typically sound worse when played and will wear much faster.

LP means Long Play which refers to a full-length record. Vinyl is a word used now interchangeably with record or album. LP technically refers to the length of a record which can be between 10-12 songs. Vinyl refers to the actual object or medium used as a format of playing music similar to a record.
So to fit this new listening habit, some acts and labels like to release a steady stream of singles to keep fans engaged. This is particularly prevalent in dance music genres, where production times on single tracks are usually much shorter than it takes for a band to write, record, mix and master a track.
The terms are often used interchangeably since all modern records are normally made of vinyl. At first, records were commonly made from shellac material. 33 RPM will generally lead to more playtime fitting on a record side. Going with 45 RPM will generally lead to playtime and low production costs being sacrificed for more audio quality. This is due to the fact that a higher speed allows the recording to fit more sound information in each second.
These generally fall into two categories: policy records and operational records.
Rock and roll and R&B 45s with the cardboard sleeves are worth at least $20, with many being worth more than $200. First pressings of albums have more value than second, third, or subsequent pressings. They are referred to as the “originals†that were purchased when the record first hit the charts.
A shortage of supply to make records, a diminished demand to press records due to high costs, and a frenzy of people buying records with little to no regard for the price. Sales of records online have never even been close to what they were in 2020 when they increased 30% in one year (this is unprecedented).
So why have records become more expensive? Phil Leigh of online retailer Norman Records blames RSD. “It's been hugely popular and is largely based around reissues, legacy acts and collectibles. The major labels have realised they can expand on that and make quite a bit of money from it – so they have.”
CDs were more popular than vinyl in terms of units sold in 2020, however: RIAA data shows that 31.6 million CD albums were sold in the year, with 22.9 million vinyl LP/EPs being snapped up. The US record industry generated $12.2bn across all formats in 2020, says the RIAA, up 9.2% year-on-year.
When vinyl returned (but with less demand than previously due to the popularity of digital music platforms), smaller vinyl factories replaced the older ones, and it's more expensive to produce things on a smaller scale. The second reason may be that since vinyl is now trendier than CDs, they can charge more for it!
