California Requires All Riders to Wear a Helmet
California's mandatory helmet law, as written in Vehicle Code Section 27803, states that it is “unlawful to operate a motorcycle, motor-driven cycle, or motorized bicycle if the driver or any passenger is not wearing a safety helmet.â€Under the new law, helmets would only be required for motorized scooter riders who are under the age of 18. Currently, anyone who uses motorized scooters must wear a properly fitted and fastened helmet meeting specific standards.
As stated in the legislation, an approved motor bike helmet must comply with standard AS/NZS 1698. However, at this stage in New South Wales, it is still technically illegal to wear a GoPro or other such device on a motorcycle helmet.
Illinois, Iowa and New Hampshire are the only states that do not have motorcycle helmet laws.
In California, anyone aged 18 and under operating a bicycle, scooter or skateboard, or using roller skates must legally wear a bicycle helmet. That means it's technically legal for youth to ride a bike without wearing a helmet on private property (except sidewalks).
Do I need a helmet on a trike? Helmets are only compulsory for motorcycles, not Trikes. However, it is highly recommended that you wear a helmet to protect your head in the event of an accident. It also protects you from the elements and debris getting flicked up by other road users.
Despite research suggesting that lane splitting can improve traffic congestion and that splitting lanes may actually be safer for motorcycle riders than sitting between vehicles in stop-and-go traffic, the practice of lane splitting remains illegal under Tennessee law.
WHAT ARE THE TENNESSEE MOTORCYCLE HELMET LAWS? Both riders and passengers are required to wear a motorcycle helmet when riding. A helmet should meet the federal safety standards and the State of Tennessee requirements.

Beginning July 1, Tennessee motorcyclists can legally run red lights - if they stop first and "exercise due care" - under a bill signed into law by Gov. Phil Bredesen. The new law isn't as popular with the state's law enforcement and transportation community, who say it will be difficult to enforce.
Kentucky first enacted a motorcycle helmet law for all riders in 1968. Motorcycle operators and passengers under the age of 21; • Motorcycle operators who possess a motorcycle instruction permit; • Motorcycle operators who have had an operator's license for less than one year.
Under North Carolina law, all operators and passengers on motorcycles and mopeds must wear a motorcycle safety helmet of a type that complies with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 218.
Partial Helmet Laws
Passengers under the age of 18 and those who are still riding on a learner's permit must wear a DOT approved helmet at all times while riding their motorcycles on public roads. If you are unsure if your helmet is DOT approved, all you have to do is look at the back.It depends on where you live, but if you ride without a valid motorcycle license, you can be ticketed, fined and in some cases, even jailed. And even if you're a first-time offender, if you are caught riding without a valid license, your motor- cycle can be impounded and towed away, on the spot.
South Carolina Motorcycle Helmet LawIn South Carolina, all motorcycle operators and passengers under 21 must wear a helmet approved by the Department of Highways and Public Transportation. The helmet must be equipped with either a neck or chin strap, and it must be 'reflectorized' on both sides.
