iTunes BackupTo back up with iTunes, plug your iPhone into your PC or Mac, open iTunes, and sync your files between your PC or Mac and iPhone. Unlike iCloud, iTunes backs up all your photos, images, media files not purchased from iTunes, messages, call logs, application data, settings, memos, calendar, and bookmarks.
How to use device-to-device migration
- Turn on your new device and place it near your current device that's using iOS 12.4 or later or iPadOS 13.4.
- Wait for an animation to appear on your new device.
- When asked, enter your current passcode on your new device.
Yes, you should be backing up your iPhone regularly. Here's how to do it even if iCloud won't let you. Even if you look after your iPhone ($899 at Amazon) carefully that doesn't mean it won't break, or that you won't lose it or, even worse, have it stolen.
Apple saves your text messages in its iPhone backups—whether they're saved locally on your PC or they're part of an iCloud backup—which you should have. That's good! Unfortunately, the file containing your messages doesn't appear separately within the backup.
Backup sizeApps - since iOS 9 backups include user data of apps, but not the apps themselves. They are re-downloaded from the App Store when restoring a backup. This data is usually already synced via iTunes / Apple Music or iCloud Music Library.
An iTunes backup will save nearly everything on the iPhone including pictures on the camera roll, just as long as the photos were not downloaded from the computer but taken directly from the iPhone's camera. For more info on backups, see About backups for iOS devices.
iCloud storage is used for backups, photos, videos, documents, emails, and app data.
Many iOS apps automatically back up to iCloud after you install them. You can decrease the size of your iCloud Backup and free up space in iCloud when you turn off backups for apps that you're not using or delete old iCloud backups.
If I don't back it up, what will happen? Nothing, but if for some reason the device needs to be restored there will be a lot of data missing. The easy way around this is to either turn the Wi-Fi back on or plug the device into the computer it normally syncs with and backup the device to the computer.
Many apps sync their data online like this anyway, so the iCloud backup isn't completely essential. It depends on the individual app. To customize the individual apps that back up on another device, you'll have to visit this screen on the other device.
Go to Settings > [your name], and tap iCloud. Tap iCloud Backup. Tap Back Up Now. Stay connected to your Wi-Fi network until the process completes.
If you'd like to transfer contacts from iPhone to iPhone without iCloud, you can use iTunes instead. You'll need both iPhones and a computer for this task. Make sure you have the latest version of iTunes on your Mac or PC.
To sync your contacts with iCloud, head into the Settings menu on your iPhone, then head to Accounts & Passwords. Open the iCloud menu, then make sure Contacts is toggled to on.
Make sure that the date and time settings on your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Mac, or PC are correct. Make sure that you're signed in to iCloud with the same Apple ID on all of your devices. Then, check that you turned on Contacts, Calendars, and Reminders* in your iCloud settings. Check your Internet connection.

Duplicate contacts on your iPhone can occur as the result of using iCloud, or due to an issue with your address book or email client on your computer. When using your iPhone for both your business and personal purposes, you may create duplicate contacts by syncing with more than one service.
You can verify this by opening Settings and heading to System > Backup. Make sure that backing up to Google Drive is enabled and check that Contacts have been backed up recently. If so, your Android contacts are backing up to Google Contacts.
