It depends how much the check is for, where it was drawn and how old your account is. Chase has nothing to do with it. The rules are set by the state your bank is in. A very large check in a very new account can take as long as a month to clear while a local check of under a hundred will clear in a day.
When will my funds be available? Deposits submitted before 11 PM Eastern time on a business day generally will be available by the next business day. Deposits submitted after 11 PM or on a non-business day will be processed the next business day.
To verify a check, you need to contact the bank that the money is coming from.
- Find the bank name on the front of the check.
- Search for the bank online and visit the bank's official site to get a phone number for customer service.
- Tell the customer service representative that you'd like to verify a check you received.
Most banks have an automated system for verifying these checks. Do NOT call the number printed on the check without first verifying that number.
Chase doesn't limit the amount of money you can deposit via checks. But if you deposit checks through an ATM, you can only deposit a maximum of 30 checks. If you use mobile deposit, Chase limits daily deposits to $2,000. You're also limited to $5,000 per 30 day period in mobile deposits.
The safest and fastest way to get cash is to take your check to the check writer's bank. That's the bank or credit union that holds the check writer's funds, and you can get the money out of the check writer's account and into your hands instantly at that bank.
Depositing a big amount of cash that is $10,000 or more means your bank or credit union will report it to the federal government. The $10,000 threshold was created as part of the Bank Secrecy Act, passed by Congress in 1970, and adjusted with the Patriot Act in 2002.
However, you can
cash a large check without dealing a
hold at some banks,
check cashing stores, and grocery stores.
Tips for Cashing Large Checks
- Request that the business issuing the large check deposit the funds directly into your bank account via wire transfer.
