Just like our last case, FedEx retail rates were slightly cheaper than UPS. However, if you use Easyship, UPS will give you a better rate. Conclusion: When sending a small package cross-country between rural towns, FedEx provides cheaper rates if you are paying retail price.

Yes, you can request your incoming package be “Held for Pickup” at a local FedEx store/location for most packages. Fedex cannot and will not change this condition without authorization from the shipper.

Is FedEx's hold at location faster? No. On the same day it was going to be delivered to you, instead of delivering to you, they will deliver it to the chosen location. So it will arrive the same day, but you'll need to go, and get it.
FedEx provides free packaging for all your shipping needs. All you need is a FedEx account. The supplies will be sent to you free of charge. To ensure your consignments arrive on time and in good condition, it is vital you take time to pack and label them correctly.

General Packaging GuidelinesUse FedEx Express packaging for FedEx Express package shipments only; any other use is prohibited. You may use your own packaging if boxes are sturdy and undamaged with all flaps intact. Chipboard boxes, such as gift or shoe boxes, must be packed into a corrugated outer box.
With FedEx Ground® and FedEx Home Delivery® Services, you can ship packages up to 150 lbs; up to 108" in length, and 165" in length plus girth. Place yellow and black safety heavyweight labels over the diagonal corners of the package if it weighs more than 75 lbs.

The USPS will keep you well-stocked with boxes, stickers, forms and more for free. These pre-printed envelopes, Tyvek® mailers and boxes can be used to send items through Priority Mail and Priority Mail Express, and they're eco-friendly.
Getting started is as easy asSelect “Hold at Location” and choose a nearby Walgreens. When your package arrives, FedEx will notify you, and you can pick it up at a Walgreens near you.
FedEx Home Delivery delivers within 1–5 days every day of the week, including Saturday and Sunday (excluding Hawaii and Alaska). It's ideal for packages shipping within the U.S.
When a shipment is tendered, notice is sent to a service provider with an offer to carry the shipment. This happens when FedEx passes off the shipment to the USPS, but prior to it being "out for delivery".
