There is a lot of variance of the file size of videos, but the average for 720p is around 4 MB per minute. That would mean on average it would take 40 MB of your data allowance to watch the 10 minute 720p video.
The problem with YouTube's quality is compression. Compression is directly related to file size; smaller files will have less quality. Because so much video content is uploaded to YouTube, they have to heavily compress videos in order to still be able to provide the storage and bandwidth needed.

The apps that use the most data typically are the apps that you use the most. For a lot of people, that's Facebook, Instagram, Netflix, Snapchat, Spotify, Twitter and YouTube. If you use any of these apps daily, change these settings to reduce how much data they use.

SD-quality video uses about 0.7GB (700MB) per hour. HD-quality video uses about 0.9GB (720p), 1.5GB (1080p) and 3GB (2K) per hour. UHD quality video uses a lot of data. A 4K stream uses about 7.2GB per hour.

Watching YouTube videos online is one of those things that almost any internet user does. Watching videos in 360p for an hour will use only 60 megabytes of data. But watching videos in 4k for an hour might use 2.7GB of data on your plan or more if you're watching on a higher frame rate.
Usually the bitrate of a 720p video is 17Mbps (that is 17 million bit per second). Since 1 byte 1B=8 bits, this means the bit rate is 17/8=2.1 mega Bytes per second (2.1 MB/s). 1 minute=60 second, so it takes about 120 MB (or less, so lets say 1 minute=100 MB (mega bytes).
At one time, Google experimented with a 5.2 Mbps 4k resolution delivery but dropped it last year. If you are watching a 4.5 Mbps 1080p HD movie for 10 minutes over a fast internet connection, that's about 34MB total. Viewed in 720p, the same video would transfer about 2/3 as much data.
However, you can only watch YouTube without WiFi or cellular data within 48 hours. Beyond this short period of time, the videos you saved for offline viewing will get deleted automatically without notifying you.
YouTube generally uses less data than Netflix. At medium picture quality, one hour of YouTube viewing will cost you 100MB vs 500MB of Netflix. Netflix has three video quality settings to stream: low, medium, and high (Netflix auto setting).
