Holland America Line is one of several cruise lines that has already opened up bookings for Alaska sailings this summer. New legislation offers significant hope, and cruise lines are already announcing plans to begin sailings in July.
Several cruise lines will resume sailing this summer from international ports instead of US waters. These are the updated 2021 sailing plans for cruise lines like Royal Caribbean, Carnival, and Disney Cruises. Visit Business Insider's homepage for more stories.
The cruise line has suspended all operations through February 28, 2021. The fleet will now remain on hold until May 2021 while the cruise line continues to work on the safe return to sailings. Update 11: On February 16 it was announced by the cruise line that operations are to remain on pause through May 31, 2021.
While Royal Caribbean has not officially informed guests that sailings that visit Canada in 2021 are cancelled, all potentially affected sailings have been removed from being able to be booked on the cruise line site.

For the Alaska cruise, that means stops in Canada. This, amusingly, means that a federal law that supposedly exists to protect American maritime interests has in reality led to cruise ships having to make stops in Canada and increasing that country's tourism revenue instead.
All cruises sailing from the U.S. must stop in Canada or another foreign port due to the Passenger Vessel Services Act (PVSA). Under this act, foreign-flagged ships must visit at least one foreign country during the cruise. A cruise line would face significant penalties for not complying. PVSA came into force in 1886.
President Joe Biden signed the Alaska Tourism Restoration Act into law, which allows cruise ships to visit Alaska.
Along with more existing cruise ships sailing in 2022, there are a number of brand new cruise ships scheduled to set sail. Some of these amazing and innovative ships include Virgin Voyages' Scarlet Lady and Valiant Lady, as well as Celebrity Apex, Royal Caribbean's Odyssey of the Seas, and Enchanted Princess.
