Do not round off any figure in the scores. USGA states that the default maximum number from any handicap index in a golf match should be 40.4 for women and 36.4 for men if played on an 18-hole course. On the 9-hole course, it should be 18.2 for men and 20.2 for women.
Averages. In determining where you stand among amateur golfers in general, it helps to know what the average handicap is for both men and women. The average male golfer has a handicap of 16.1, while the average female has a handicap of 28.9.
When a player starts a hole but does not hole out for a valid reason, subject to other provisions set out within the Rules of Handicapping, the player must record their most likely score or net double bogey, whichever is lower, as appropriate for the situation and depending on the format of play.
In most cases, a low golf handicap is one that is a single digit. In other words, it is a handicap of between 1 and 9. For example, a golfer with a handicap of 2 might not feel that 9 is considered low. Still, anyone with a single-digit handicap is a skilled golfer.

Instead of forcing these golfers to combine their scores every time they play, the USGA created a 9-hole handicap, which is denoted by an "N" (as in 12.2N). A Course Handicap is the number of strokes a player receives on each particular course. The maximum score for each hole played is limited to a net double bogey – which is equal to Par of the hole + 2 strokes (double bogey) + any handicap strokes the player is entitled to receive on that hole based on their Course Handicap.
Applying Handicaps in Handicap MatchIf a player declares a wrong handicap either before or during the match and does not correct the mistake before the opponent makes his or her next stroke: The player is disqualified if this affects the number of strokes the player gives or gets. If it does not, there is no penalty.
Handicapping of a 4BBB event using singles card and/or singles entry will not correctly calculate scores for handicapping. Singles cards can still be used for 4BBB entry but to handicap requires manual calculation of each card and player with ad-hoc score entry for qualifying scores.
If your Course Handicap is greater than 18, you'll subtract 1 stroke for every hole, then continue to subtract additional strokes restarting with 1 until you reach your Course Handicap. For example, a Course Handicap of 20 would subtract 2 strokes on holes rated 1 and 2, and 1 stroke on every other hole.

Approximately one percent of all golfers are single-digit handicappers. If you play golf at a club that has several great players, you may be surprised by this number, but it is true. It is very difficult to make it to the level of a single-digit handicap.
Currently, only golfers that are members of affiliated golf clubs are able to access an official handicap, though the governing body confirmed in February that it will launch a platform where non-members can gain official handicaps.
