In France, the welfare system make up for about 500 billion euros annually, or more than 30% of GDP. The origin of social protection in France dates back to medieval times, with fraternal benefit societies. Gradually, protection has covered the entire population, while the benefits extend.
During World War One, Beveridge was involved in mobilising and controlling manpower. Nordic welfare model
The Nordic model of welfare is distinguished from other types of welfare states by its emphasis on maximising labour force participation, promoting gender equality, egalitarian, and extensive benefit levels, the large magnitude of income redistribution and liberal use of expansionary fiscal policy.The welfare state of the United Kingdom began to evolve in the 1900s and early 1910s, and comprises expenditures by the government of the United Kingdom intended to improve health, education, employment and social security.
