Golf Ireland have confirmed that golf clubs across the island will be permitted to welcome visitors and guests from Friday, April 30, onwards after a relaxing of Covid-19 restrictions. Outdoor hospitality can also be resumed by clubs, meaning restaurants and bars in clubhouses can re-open tomorrow as well.
For new players:Once you have joined a golf club and you have submitted scores from a total of 54 holes, made up of 9 or 18-hole scores, you will be allocated an initial Handicap Index. You are then able to return competition and general play scores (pre-registered).
Handicap differential = (Adjusted Gross Score-rating of the course) X 113 / Course slope ratings. The course rating is simply the scores of a new golfer on a normal course under a normal playing condition.
To get your first handicap you will need to complete 54 holes of golf (this may be any combination of 18- and 9-holes*) with your card marked by someone who understands the Rules of Golf.
What is a good golf handicap for beginners? Breaking 90 in golf is difficult for beginner's but a huge milestone. 90 would be 18 strokes over par so a handicap of 18 or lower would be a good handicap for a beginner. The average handicap for a beginner is probably above 30.
What Is A Good Golf Handicap? A good golf handicap is ten or less. With a handicap index of ten or less, you will generally shoot somewhere around 82. Shooing in the low 80s is better than average but certainly not good enough to be considered a scratch player.
Principle of the Rule:The Course Handicap calculation converts a Handicap Index to the number of strokes a player requires to play any golf course with a Course Rating and Slope Rating. A Playing Handicap is calculated by applying the appropriate handicap allowance to a player's Course Handicap.
The minimum number of 18-hole rounds required to establish a handicap is five, which are subject to peer review by other members of the association. After you have played more than five rounds, your handicap index will be based on your best 10 rounds over the past 20 entered.
The maximum Handicap Index is 54 for men and women.

One of the requirements to offering a USGA compliant Handicap Index is that players must belong to a golf club for the “oversight of golf activities”. On the other hand, clubs that offer a GHIN Handicap Index must be affiliated with a state or regional golf association.

A scratch golfer is someone who has around a zero handicap. This means that the player will usually shoot right around par on any given course.
