All unlocked phones work on GSM networks. To be compatible with Total Wireless, you need an unlocked CDMA phone.
No Verizon will not negotiate. However you d not even explain what plan your on. T-Mobile will never negotiate with you either by the way.
Total Wireless plan is quite cheap but it accrues a lot of charges which might not have been in the original bill plan. On the other hand, Cricket is slightly higher in price plan and has a well laid out bill plans on their website, stating clearly how much you will pay for every plan inclusive of tax.
Verizon Prepaid is higher priority on the towers than Total Wireless (or any MVNO). Unless you need the extra data you get from Total Wireless, why not try it? It's prepaid so it's easy to switch if you end up not likely it.
