Beginning February 1, 2016, IHSS providers who travel between more than one client in the same day will be eligible to be paid for the time spent traveling between the two clients, up to seven hours per workweek. The cost of the travel (gas, bus fare, etc.) is not paid.
If your recipient dies, do not sign the timesheet for them. Sign your own name and write “deceased” and the date they died instead of their signature. Do not turn in the timesheet early. You must wait until all the hours have actually been worked.
Duties & Responsibilities for the Care Provider

Today, IHSS provides care to eligible Californians such as senior citizens, persons with disability, or those that need hospice care toward the end of their lives.
Typically, caregiver spouses are paid between $10.75 - $20.75 / hour. In general terms, to be eligible as a care recipient for these programs, applicants are limited to approximately $27,756 per year in income, and most programs limit the value of their countable assets to less than $2,000.
Retirement social security will not pay a caregiver directly. However, depending on your earnings amount through your working lifetime, and when you decide to take your social security income, you may make enough to pay for a caregiver.

On March 1, 2016, CDSS received a ruling from the IRS that IHSS wages received by IHSS providers who live in the same home with the recipient of those services are also excluded from gross income for purposes of FIT. This ruling applies to State Income Tax (SIT) as well.
Who's eligible?

Medicare typically doesn't pay for in-home caregivers for personal care or housekeeping if that's the only care you need. Medicare may pay for short-term caregivers if you also need medical care to recover from surgery, an illness, or an injury.

This percentage varies, but California provides up to 60 – 70% of your pay up to a maximum amount of $1,300 per week.
