Make sure your Chromecast is connected to the same WiFi network. Use the HDMI extender cable that came with your Chromecast. Reset your Chromecast by holding the reset button your dongle for 25 seconds. Reset your modem or router.
If you're reading the error message “Could not communicate with your Chromecast”, you will need to re-establish a connection between your Chromecast and Wi-Fi Network. Make sure the Chromecast is plugged in, powered up and connected to the television's HDMI port. Locate the small button on the side of the Chromecast.
General troubleshooting
- Reboot the following devices: Wi-Fi router.
- Turn Wi-Fi off and on from the mobile device you're using to set up the Chromecast device.

Chromecast is an enlarged thumb drive-sized dongle that plugs into a modern television set's HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) port and allows you to stream (or rather cast) media from your existing computer or mobile device through your home WiFi network and onto your TV screen.
Updates to your Chromecast
- Your Google Home app will provide indication of the setup progress.
