How to look after your mental health
- Talk about your feelings. Talking about your feelings can help you stay in good mental health and deal with times when you feel troubled.

- Do something you're good at.
There may be some situations where your GP may want you to be admitted to hospital but you will often be given the option to go there yourself. If your GP thinks you need to be sectioned, he or she will usually need to contact specially trained mental health practitioners to assess you before you go into hospital.

If your offers of advice and support are being rejected, you may feel like you're powerless to do anything. But you can still be there for your friend; you might just need to take a different approach to the way you're supporting them. Continue to be supportive. Listen to your friend when they need to talk.

- Pay attention to the emotions of the person.
- Discuss the way you see the delusion.
- Express that you are concerned about the person.
- Offer to pursue therapy together but be strategic.
- Ask the person why they believe as they do and be open-minded.
Discontinuing treatment may lead to exacerbation of symptoms, undermining therapeutic progress.
