Even without your Zipcard, you can still access your reservations with the Zipcar App. We can issue one replacement Zipcard per year at no charge. If you request more, we will apply a £10 charge to your account. Please fill out the form below to request a new Zipcard.
Most people are approved instantly and can book a trip within minutes, but if there's a reason for delay, we'll email you. As soon as you're approved, you can book Zipcars by the hour or day and use our app to unlock and lock during your trip.
Non-Members are expressly prohibited from driving a Zipcar at any time. To sign up with Zipcar, you'll pay a $25 application fee plus a monthly membership of $7. Rental rates themselves start at $9.50 per hour, but if you want to keep it for longer periods, like a regular rental car, the daily rate starts at $77.
There is no mileage limit on reservations in our vehicles (both Roundtrip and Flex). Reservations include 60 free miles per day, with a day representing each 24-hour period of the booking.
Drive one-way and drop in the Zipzone. Flex is our one-way service, where you can pick up and drop cars anywhere in the Zipzone so long as it complies with our parking rules where you are ending your trip. More information can be found on parking rules here.
We are happy to pay for gas, but we count on members to fuel the vehicles. Every Zipcar has a gas card in the visor above the driver's seat that should be used when fueling the vehicle. Your Zipcar needs to be left with at least 1/4 tank of gas, no matter how much it had at the start of the reservation.
There is no charge if you cancel or shorten your reservation with the required advance notice, but if you don't cancel or shorten within the required timeframe, you're responsible for the full amount of the reservation.
To do so, you must call Zipcar's customer support line at 1-866-494-7227 and tell the representative that you want to close your account.
There is no grace period for returning a reservation. You must return the Zipcar by the end time you have scheduled or you will be subject to a late fee.
When you first book your Zipcar, you will be required to pay for the time you choose upfront and returning it early would not make it available for other users, so no matter when you decide to return the car, you will not be able to get a refund on the extra time.
If you don't pay for your ticket, we will be notified and charge you a £15 processing fee. If we can't redirect it, we will pay the fine, along with any late fees and bill the total to your account. Other fines or membership suspension can also result, so please pay as soon as the ticket has been received.
Regardless of how many hours you need the car for, ZipCar allows you to drive up to 180 miles at no additional charge. Should you need to drive a longer distance, you'll need to pay 45 cents per additional mile you put on the car. In some cases, premium vehicles cost 55 cents for each mile over 180 miles.
If you happen to be involved in an incident with your Zipcar, a damage fee of up to $1,000 may apply. A damage fee can apply to dents, scratches, collisions, flat tires, windshield cracks, dead batteries, engine problems, vandalism, theft, third-party damages and, in some cases, third-party personal injuries.
Even if rental rates are as high as $50 per day, five days in a traditional car rental would save you $100 over Zipcar. At less than $10 an hour (and without the hassle of dealing with gas), Zipcar's a better choice for a quick outing—and even compares favorably to Uber and Lyft.
No, Zipcar does not offer no credit checks.
Heres how to get a gas receipt refunded on ZipCar:
- Go to their Support ticket submission form.
- Enter subject 'Gas Receipt' or whatever.
- Enter details 'Gas card didnt work here' or applicable details.
- Enter Zipcard Number, you'll find that in the sidebar on the app or in the top left of your ZipCar Card.
When you've finished your reservation make sure that you return your Zipcar to its dedicated parking bay. During your reservation you are able to park in other areas however if you're stopping over in a car park or space that requires a fee, you're responsible for paying.
Zipcars in the United StatesAll additional mileage will be billed at $0.58/mile when your reservation ends.
Select Cancel membershipAny trips scheduled after your plan expires will be cancelled. If you have a remaining balance on your account, it will be charged or credited to your credit card on file when your account is cancelled. Additional trip costs, tolls and violations will be charged once they are received.
If you do a Zipcar return early, you will not get any money back. However, it is definitely better to return a car early instead of late, as late fees start at $50.
