If you've never registered for Duo, stop getting Duo calls

Duo Security is a vendor of cloud-based two-factor authentication services. Duo's two-factor authentication system can be integrated with websites, VPNs and cloud services. The service can be set to work in conjunction with smartphones, personal computers, land lines and security tokens.
If the self-service portal is enabled by your IT administrator, you can change a device's default settings in the Duo Prompt:
- In the Duo Prompt, click My Settings & Devices.
- In the drop-down list next to "When I log in:", select Automatically send this device a Duo Push or Automatically call this device.
- Click Save.
A security key plugs into your USB port and when tapped or when the button is pressed it sends a signed response back to Duo to validate your login. Duo uses the U2F and WebAuthn authentication standards to interact with your security keys. You may also see WebAuthn referred to as "FIDO2".
Making a call in Google Duo
- Tap Video Call.
- Select the person you'd like to call from your contacts or type in the number you'd like to reach.
- Duo will call your contact, making your video visible with Knock Knock.
- To end your call, tap the red phone button in the bottom center of your screen.
Duo lets you link multiple devices to your account, so you can use your mobile phone and a landline, a landline and a hardware token, two different mobile devices, etc.
Stop getting Google Duo calls. If you've connected your phone number to any Google services, you may automatically be registered with other products, like Google Duo. If you want, you can uninstall Duo or delete your Duo account. If you want to use Duo again later, you'll need to register again.
Block or report someone
- On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Duo app .
- Tap and hold the contact you want to block for 2 seconds.
- In the contact options menu, tap Block user . To report abuse, select the "Report as spam" checkbox. To only block the person, unselect the "Report as spam" checkbox.
- Tap Block.
Open Google Duo App. Press and hold the avatar or the name/number of person you want to remove from call log. You will get a Pop Up Menu. Tap "Remove from List"
It is completely safe. Your video calls are private, very private, such that not even people at Google know what you are talking about or what you look like during the call. So Google says because it delivers end-to-end encryption with Duo. Now Duo feeds it with even more info.
Be advised that if you are a Duolingo Plus subscriber via the mobile apps (Android or iOS), deleting your account will not suspend charges, as those are managed by Apple or Google. For more details on data and privacy on Duolingo, please review our Privacy Policy.
Using Duo without Cellular Service or While Traveling
- Simply open the app and tap the Passcode button. Depending on your device, this button may say Generate Passcode or Generate Token Code. It may also simply contain an image of a key.
- Enter the code provided in the Passcode field of the Duo verification screen.
If you're experiencing issues with video or audio during a call on Google Duo, then check the following: Make sure your WiFi or cellular network connection isn't weak, or else the video or sound may not work properly. Restart Google Duo app or restart your device.
Here's how it works:
- Enter your username and password into your login page.
- Choose 'Duo Push' as your second factor on the next screen prompt.
- Then, tap 'Approve' on the push notification sent to your phone.
Recovering Duo-Protected Accounts
- Restore your new or reset iOS device from your iCloud backup.
- Open the Duo Mobile app on your new device.
- Tap Reconnect next to your Duo account in the main accounts list.
- Log in to the Duo-protected application selected by your IT administrator.
The Duo Mobile App. The Duo Mobile app is a free smartphone and tablet application that syncs with your USC 2FA account to complete the authentication process. The app is required in order to use the Duo Push authentication method and can be used to provide offline authentication passcodes.
The 12-digit Activation Code can be found in two sections of the web application: users can go to Administration and scroll down to Mobile Apps (the Administration menu can be found in the top right corner of the screen). Once you click Activate next to the driver's information, you'll receive the code.
You can also block individual people from calling you. (By the way, when you block a person on Duo, the person won't know it. When they call, they'll just hear your line ring and ring continuously.)
Preview video calls with Knock Knock. When you call someone using Duo, the other person can see live video of you while their device rings if they have you as a contact. You won't be able to see the person you're calling until they answer. You'll also only see video from callers you have as contacts.
Currently there is no specific way to know if the person is busy on another call while you are trying to make a Video call apart from the application saying “The person is unavailable to take the call”. But you can request for this feature through an in-app feedback from within the Duo application it self.
How to use Google Duo Effects during a video chat
- Open the Google Duo app.
- Start a video chat with someone.
- At the bottom right of the UI, tap the three vertical dots.
- Navigate to Effects on the far right of the pop-up menu.
- Have fun jumping between the different Effects.
Duo is cross-platform, but it's only available for iOS and Android since they're the two most used mobile operating systems. It's also not available for Windows, OS X, or Chrome OS.
Google Duo is a very simple video chat app and is available on Android and iOS, and even has a web app with limited capabilities. Apart from simply video or voice calling someone, Duo lets you record audio and video messages in case a person doesn't answer.
If you connect your Google Account, they can also connect with you across Google services. Duo can periodically send your contacts and location to Google. If you call someone not saved in your contacts, Duo will display your phone number so they can see who's calling.
