To get the best results when you wash a sheepskin rug you need to allow the leather to dry slowly. This helps to avoid the leather going hard and stiff. Air dry for about 7-10 days and then finish off in a dryer on a very LOW heat setting.
You CAN tumble dry your sheepskin on a LOW HEAT setting (if you use the hot setting you will ruin your sheepskin - this is critical). The dryer lint fluff filter will quickly fill with wool dust so it is important to clean this filter out several times during the drying process.
Brush the rug throughout the drying process to soften it.
Consider brushing the rug when it's wet with a large-tooth comb, and then again when it's dry using a sheepskin brush to make it extra fluffy. A pet brush works well to brush the rug when it's dry, making it fluff up more.Wash the sheepskin using a gentle brush and a mild detergent without submerging in water. It is a worthy note that our sheepskins are produced as a by-product of meat production and no sheep are killed specifically for the skins. Some people thoroughly object to animals being used for meat, fibres, skins or milk and we expect that a sheepskin will not be acceptable to those who hold such views.

How to Clean Sheepskin Fleece Do's & Don'ts:
- Do wash genuine fleece in cold water.
- Do use a stiff brush to keep your pad clean and fluffy between washings.
- Do allow genuine fleece to dry naturally, out of direct sunlight and away from heat sources.
- Don't wash genuine fleece in conventional laundry detergent.

If your carpet gets a lot of traffic, or it has dents from years of unmoved furniture, it's time to fluff it back up to its prime look. Brushing and vacuuming may be enough for barely flattened carpet, but deep dents need more attention. Use vinegar and water, ice, an iron, or a blow dryer to give your carpet a boost.
Steps
- Start with a freshly vacuumed rug.
- Fill the tub with warm water.
- Add a capful of detergent or more if the rug is large.
- Place the rug in the water and allow it to soak for about 10 minutes.
- Using your hands and the brush, gently work the stains out of the fibers.
- Try to wring out as much water as you can.
Mix approximately 1 tablespoon of hydrogen peroxide into about one cup of water. Dip a clean rag into the mixture and saturate the yellowed area. Rinse by blotting with a clean, wet rag.

Non-biological detergent
This doesn't contain enzymes and is thought to be less likely to irritate sensitive skin. For this reason, it is also more likely to be free from added fragrances and colourings. However, the lack of enzymes means that it tends to be less effective at stain removal than biological detergent.Detergents for wool are all mild and are suitable for washing wool in the washing machine and also for hand washing wool clothes, wool blankets and other wool items. Using a neutral, mild detergent, preferably one that is Woolmark recommended, should be your go-to when hand washing or machine washing wool clothing.
