Once the concrete looks dry (usually day 3) you can sand the concrete. This should be done to all concrete countertops. 200 grit sandpaper on a regular palm/orbital sander is good. You want a 200/220 grit finish on the concrete so your sealer bonds good.
Go over the entire surface, including the edges, making sure to supply a constant stream of water to the surface as you grind. Keep the polisher level as you go. Step 4: After polishing the entire concrete countertop with a 50-grit pad, change to a 100-grit pad and polish the entire surface again.
Once the concrete looks dry (usually day 3) you can sand the concrete. This should be done to all concrete countertops. 200 grit sandpaper on a regular palm/orbital sander is good. Change the sandpaper every 10 square feet about, even if it still seems good.
If you use a wet-dry sandpaper, you can wet the area before you work to keep dust down. Do not let the slurry dry on the concrete because it will harden in place. If you only have a small area to sand, you can also use a palm sander, orbital sander or belt sander.
Usually used with a water-fed concrete polisher. Wet / Dry Pads – Require a quick-release mechanism, but unlike other pads, these are safe to use on a high speed angle grinder.
Wet Polisher. High quality variable speed wet polisher used for grinding and polishing concrete. Wet Diamond Polishing Pads or Dry 3 Step Polishing Pads sold seperately.
How To Polish Concrete Floors
- Step 1 – Prepare the Area for Polishing.
- Step 2 – Polish the Concrete Floors Using a Coarse Grit Abrasive Disc.
- Step 3 – Polish the Concrete Floors Using a Fine Grit Abrasive Disc.
- Step 4 – Polish the Floors with an Extra-Fine Grit Abrasive Disc.
- Step 5 – Apply a Coat of Concrete Floor Polish.
Wearing rubber gloves, place a handful of slurry on the countertop and work in circular motions, ensuring that all small holes and voids are filled. Using a plastic putty knife, scrape off the excess. Leave the holes over-filled because the slurry will shrink as it dries.
But grout is filling only small holes that do not affect the structural performance of the concrete. As long as it sticks and you are able to hone it off in a reasonable amount of time, it's fine.
You can use the epoxy to glue chips that came out of the edge of your counter if you still have the piece. If not, smooth the epoxy into the chip and shape it to the rest of the counter's edge as much as you can. Wait for the epoxy to set. Once it has, sand away any excess with 400-grit sandpaper.
The left side of the slab extends in the back to the center of the faucet, and in the front about 3 inches in front of the sink. The right side of the slab has a “puzzle piece” seam that zigzags back from the right side of the dishwasher to the right side of the cantilever.
Procedure to Repair Honeycomb in Concrete
- Use light chipping hammers weighing approximately 7 kg or less to remove the required amount of concrete, because impact hammers can fracture the surface of the concrete that remains.
- A common way to place the repair material is to simply trowel it into the void.
To clean your countertops, use a standard dish detergent as you would most countertops, nothing too aggressive or bleach based. Try to clean spills and stains before they dry and harden but if they do, scrub gently until they come off. These countertops are tough and simple common sense usually prevails.
Smooth the epoxy into the chip or crack using a putty knife or the edge of a credit card. Get the epoxy as level as possible, overfilling the chip or crack rather than underfilling. You can use the epoxy to glue chips that came out of the edge of your counter if you still have the piece.
WHY Do Blisters Form? Blisters may form on the surface of fresh concrete when either bubbles of entrapped air or bleed water migrate through the concrete and become trapped under the surface, which has been sealed prematurely during the finishing operations. These defects are not easily repaired after concrete hardens.
There are basically two methods used to smooth off hardened concrete surfaces. They are dry grinding and wet rubbing. Dry grinding is done of dry concrete surfaces to remove fins and marks caused by forms.
If you have an uneven concrete slab, you could replace it or cover it with leveling compound. But consider grinding it instead. Powerful grinding equipment is available at rental centers that cater to contractors. Grinding down leftover thin-set or other hard coatings.
use steel finishing trowel for smooth texture
To finish the concrete, use a steel finishing trowel to achieve a smooth texture. The tool brings water to the surface of the concrete.Apply concrete patch to the edges and corners – in order to provide a smooth, finished look, you need to add vinyl concrete patch material to the freshly-rounded corners and edges. To apply, scoop a small amount of the patch material onto a putty knife and lay it down in thin layers on the areas you just rounded.
If you have concrete that is going to be exposed architecturally, you can sand it by hand using wet and dry sandpaper or an orbital sander. After sanding you should apply 2-3 coats of “acid wash” on the entire surface to hide sandpaper scratch marks from the concrete.
A drum sander is a good choice for a large project that requires extensive sanding. Because you stand behind the machine to use it, the drum sander is easier on your knees and back but is more difficult to control.
Economical: You can expect to pay between $3 and $12 per square foot for polished concrete, depending on your location and the complexity of the project. Polished concrete pricing is basically dependent upon how many levels of grinding will be required to get the floor to a suitably smooth surface.

Certainly an angle grinder has sufficient power to cut concrete materials . But it will probably perform poorly compared to a wet . A walk behind concrete saw uses water to keep diamond saw blade cool, but there're not water cool component in angle grinders.
Re: Cleaning up concrete dust after grinding
A grinded floor can be power washed or mopped. Just let it dry fully before coating it. Any doubt, do the plastic sheet moisture test before you coat.
