Hat height: Place the measuring tape at an edge of the brim and pull the tape up to the top of the hat. Circumference: Measure the circumference of the hat by placing the measuring tape on the inside edge of the hat's head hole and pulling the measuring tape in a circle until both ends of the measuring tape meet.

According to Wikipedia, one study in the United States shows, the average adult head circumference to be 55cm (21 3⁄4 ) in females and 57cm (22 1⁄2 in) in males. Another study conducted in UK shows a slightly different result: with the average female head size being 55.2 cm and the average male head size being 57.2 cm.
To find your perfect fit, take a measuring tape and measure around your head where the cap will sit, usually about a half-inch above your eyebrows and ears. Consult the table below to find the right cap size depending on what style you choose. If you are between sizes, buy the larger size.
To measure your hips, remove your outer garments, put your feet together, and wrap a soft measuring tape straight and snug around the widest part of your hips. Your hip measurement is the point at which the end of the tape meets the remaining length.

The brim is measured from the bottom of the hat band to the edge of the brim. The measurement should be taken in the back of the hat at the flattest part.
