Wait until your girlfriend is not around and check her jewelry box for a ring you've seen her wear on the ring finger of her left hand. Take the ring to a jeweler and get her size. You can also slip the ring on your finger and mark how far the ring goes down with a marker.
When she tells you the shoe size, use this made up formula: shoe size divided by 2 plus 1.5 gives you your ring size.

Using a measuring tape is the best and most accurate method to determine your ring size. Place the measuring tape over your finger and pull it around into a circle. Step 2: Adjust the size. Adjust the size of the circle, move it across your knuckles, and make sure it fits comfortably.
HOW TO:
- Cut a string that is about 6 inches long.
- Fold the string around the base of the finger, just below the knuckle.
- Mark where the string ends with the pen.
- Place the measured string on the ruler with the area marked on your right.
- The number closest to the pen mark is the circumference of the ring in millimeters.
Step 1: Cut a thin (and long) strip of paper. Step 2: Wrap the paper around your ring finger just below the knuckle (you'll want to make sure your ring can easily fit over this part). Step 4: Flatten out the thin strip of paper and measure how many inches from the mark you just made to the end of the paper you used.
There is typically a half to whole size difference between fingers - we use 3/4 of a size per finger in estimates. For example, if you are a size 8 on your left pointer finger, we would suggest a size 7.25 for your left middle finger and a size 6.5 for your left ring finger.
