To save an audio message, tap Keep underneath the message. The Messages app deletes audio messages after 2 minutes. To keep your audio messages longer, go to Settings > Messages. Scroll down and tap Expire under Audio Messages, then select After 2 Minutes or Never.
On your iPhone, go to Settings > General > Keyboard , make sure the Enable Dictation switch is enabled. Return to Messages, make sure you're sending to another Apple device user and see if you have the microphone option after performing the steps. (I don't mean the keyboard voice dictation icon).
Hi kimberly10606, Messages data is saved in the Messages app itself. An audio or video message recorded and sent from Messages will expire two minutes after you play it. Before an audio or video message expires, you can tap Keep, under the message, to manually save it in Messages and to your attachments.
Can't hear your audios?: check your device's volume settings to make sure volume is up for all media. Make sure you have the latest version of the app iOS | Android. If you are still experiencing issues attempt to Force Stop Android App | Force Close iOS. Check that your internet connection is strong.

There is a setting under Settings -> Messages -> Audio Messages section. That is why it disappeared from your message thread. If you've recorded a voice memo, you can send that in a text message. Start in the Voice Memos app (in the Utilities folder), then tap on the button to the right of the VU meter to see a list of your voice memos. Tap on the voice memo you want to send, then tap the blue Share button at the bottom left.
