When you are in the market for a new driver, there are seven major aspects to consider: skill level, size and shape of the club head and clubface, color, loft, shaft flexibility, and adjustability.
You will drive the ball longer and straighter by having a head and club shaft combination that best complements how you swing your driver. Your wedge game will improve. By getting your clubs fitted you can check the loft on your wedges as well and make sure the loft gaps are consistent.
High handicappers aren't getting fit for clubs, but new study says they might benefit the most. A recent clubfitting survey from industry research firm Golf Datatech suggests that of the one-third of serious golfers not getting fit for clubs, the largest percentage of them tend to have higher handicaps.
Now, it's important to remember that you do not have to buy the latest and greatest equipment for it to be a good fit. You don't have to spend $3,000 on shiny new clubs, and you actually don't even have to buy a full set. Sones recommends beginning students start with just a few clubs that fit correctly.
Though you may not think it is a good idea to get golf clubs fitted as a new golfer or for someone you know who is taking an interest in the sport, it can be highly beneficial if you know you or the person you know are going to stick with the sport, no matter if you're playing at a competitive or recreational level.
The club fitting specialist will look at variables such as your swing speed, the ball speed, the launch angle of the ball, and the amount of spin placed on the ball. He or she will give you a number of different shafts to try to see how they affect those variables and to get them closer to optimal ranges.
In Harvey Penick's Little Red Book: Lessons and Teachings from a Lifetime in Golf, Harvey Penick said the three most important clubs, in order, are putter, driver and wedge.
If your average swing speed is between 80 and 90 mph (the average for most male golfers) you should be using a driver with about 10.5° to 12° of loft. For recreational golfers, this, combined with new two-piece balls that spin at a lower rate, means your launch angle and spin rate will be optimized.

Yes. only a very small component of fitting has to do with actually choosing the irons (heads) that you play, and at least some of that has to do with the individual opinions and feelings about what they like to see when they look down at the club.
It's an idea the best fitters embrace, too. Says Nick Sherburne at Golf Digest 100 Best Clubfitter Club Champion, “We do a wedge fit with every iron and bag fit. We have a lot of people tell us their wedges are fine and they are about 'feel.
