When we speak about syncing email, it's about obtaining contact information through an internet data exchange (IDX) which is possible through our IMAP feature. Once you confirm the IMAP sync, the contacts that you have sent emails too, will automatically be mined and added into your account as new contacts.
Tip: Turning off auto-sync for an app doesn't remove the app. It only stops the app from automatically refreshing your data. Open your phone's Settings app. Tap Accounts.
Go to Settings > tap on Clouds and accounts > Accounts > disable – Auto-sync data. This will stop applications and account from syncing in the background which will save you battery life. However, this will stop notifications from coming through from these apps as they are not getting data from the server.
Here is another method to change the primary Gmail account on your Android device.
- Go to Google settings from within your phone's Settings or by opening the Google Settings app.
- Go to Accounts & privacy.
- Select Google Account > choose the email to replace your current primary account.
When you setup a Mail for Exchange, the default synchronization mode is Direct Push. The setting for Direct Push in Mail for Exchange is called “Always on.” The alternative is a Scheduled Push mode where the device is set to check for new messages at a set interval.
Tap on your account and make sure you've checked “Sync Gmail.” Open your device's Settings app -> Apps & Notifications -> App Info -> Gmail -> Storage -> Clear Data -> Ok. Once you're done with that, restart your device and see if that did the trick. Most of the time that will work.
After you click the “Save Changes” button at the bottom of the screen, Gmail will refresh itself—and Smart Compose should then automatically be activated.
