Ultimately, he died by drowning in the Tamagawa Canal together with a different woman, Tomie Yamazaki.

Bungo Stray Dogs translates to "Literary Stray Dogs" and though the plot doesn't revolve entirely around literature, almost every character, major and minor, are named after famous deceased authors and poets, with abilities relating to their literary styles and works.
Dazai was originally in the Port Mafia and became the Mafia's youngest executive in history at only 16. Dazai was partnered up with Chuuya Nakahara and he trained Akutagawa Ryunosuke, an orphan that he found in the slums, to use his ability to fight and to defend himself.
