"Better Call Saul" is the eighth episode of the second season of the American television drama series Breaking Bad. It was written by Peter Gould and directed by Terry McDonough. This episode marks Bob Odenkirk's first appearance as the fast-talking criminal lawyer Saul Goodman in the series.
Despite the fact that Better Call Saul takes place earlier in the overall timeline, Breaking Bad should be watched first. Above all, Walter White is the center of the Alberquerque drug dramas, with his connection to the other characters still the nucleus of shared universe.
That's the one thing that pretty much everyone attached to the show has said in interviews - Better Call Saul is not Breaking Bad, it's its own thing. That's definitely true, because Breaking Bad was never this boring. In fact, the flashback episode in the first season, Five-O, is the best in the entire series by far.
“Better Call Saul” is set several years before the events of “Breaking Bad,” the Emmy-winning drama that introduced us to Walter White (Bryan Cranston) and Jesse Pinkman (Aaron Paul). The prequel tracks the transformation of lawyer Jimmy McGill into the Saul Goodman viewers came to love in the original series.
At the end of the day they are both phenomenal shows so you can't go wrong either way. If you want to connect with occurrences and characters in Better Call Saul, Breaking Bad first. If you want to follow the entire story simply from beginning to end , Better Call Saul first.
TV may have moved on rapidly, but Breaking Bad is definitely worth a rewatch to celebrate it's 10 year anniversary. It is definitely worth a first-time watch if you've somehow never seen it at all.

Better start preparing for the end: Better Call Saul, the Breaking Bad prequel series that has scored Emmy nominations for best drama for each of its four seasons so far, will end with a sixth and final season set to debut next year, AMC revealed Thursday.

In the season premiere of Better Call Saul, there were flashbacks and flash-forwards following the finale of Breaking Bad. The opening scene showed Saul leaving Albuquerque and reloading to Omaha, Nebraska under the alias Gene Taković, keeping a low profile as a manager of a Cinnabon store, reflecting on his past life.

DEA agent Hank Schrader of Breaking Bad fame will be popping up on the next episode of Better Call Saul, which airs on Monday on AMC. The episode will see actor Dean Norris return to his famous role as Hank, alongside his partner Gomez, played by Steven Michael Quezada.
Though Lalo never appeared in Breaking Bad, he is mentioned by Saul when Walter White and Jesse Pinkman attempt to coerce Saul into representing Badger (who has been arrested for selling drugs) by kidnapping and holding Saul at gunpoint before a newly dug grave in the desert.
He worked through these concerns by justifying Gus' actions in that, by killing Victor, he was protecting everyone else who works for him. Nevertheless, he said it was "a difficult moment for me" to slit Victor's throat, and that during one take he tried to hush the character to make him die more calmly.
It's been confirmed that a number of Breaking Bad characters will return in the new film follow-up to the acclaimed AMC series. Next month sees the Netflix release of El Camino, which will fill viewers in on the story of Jesse Pinkman (Aaron Paul) following the meth drama's conclusion.
As Better Call Saul barrels into its fifth season, Kim's fate is the biggest unknown in the series. After being pushed to her professional and emotional limits, she and Jimmy pulled their two most brazen scams yet — saving Huell with the fake letter-writing campaign and then swapping out the Mesa Verde blueprints.

This episode marks the final regular appearance of Chuck McGill. In the final scene, when Chuck appeared to commit suicide by kicking the lantern off his table and burning his house down, speculation arose over whether or not the act was actually fatal.
In the interrogation, the detectives explain they're investigating the death of Mike's son Matt, a rookie police officer who was ambushed and killed when responding to a shots-fired call. In addition, Matt's partners, Troy Hoffman and Jack Fenske, were shot and killed in a similar ambush six months later.
The next day, Walt faints at the car wash and is taken to a hospital; there, he is told he has inoperable lung cancer and will likely die in two years.
Nacho did not appear in Breaking Bad, but is named in the second-season episode "Better Call Saul", the same episode that introduced Saul Goodman. Unaware of who his gun-wielding captors are, Saul tries to pin blame on "Ignacio", who was later confirmed by Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul producers to be Nacho Varga.
