My personal answer is: Armenia (Armenians call Armenia “Hayastan”, “Armenia” is derived from Old Persian “Armina”) is not part of Europe - neither geographically, nor culturally. It is part of the so called “Middle East” geographically (next to Turkey and Iran). A Middle Eastern common culture does not exist.

I would say that Armenia has slightly more to offer in terms of monasteries, so if you are very much into church history then Armenia might have slightly more to offer.
Armenian Last Names. Most Armenian names end in "ian" or "yan, "meaning the "son of". So for example, just like "Peterson" means "son of Peter" in English, Petrosian or Bedrosian would mean the same exact thing, since Petros/Bedros means Peter in Armenian, and -ian at the end means the same as son.
It's possible to travel to Nagorno-Karabakh, but only from the Armenian side of the border. The border between Armenia and Azerbaijan remains closed, so it's necessary to pass back through Georgia if you're travelling between the two countries overland.

When in 1991 Armenia become Independent country Turkey recognized that and the border reopened for brief two years. Renewed closure in 1993 was due to Turkish embargo designed to encourage Armenia's withdrawal from Azerbaijani territory captured during the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict (1989-1991).
