Adam. The first Angel is Adam (???, Adamu), named for the first human created by God in the Book of Genesis in the Abrahamic beliefs. All Angels, except for Lilith and the Lilin, are descended from Adam and possess the "Fruit of Life", the source of the Angels' power and immortality (also known as S² Engine).
So Kaworu decided to sacrifice his own life to save the Lilin. In fact, it seems that he had to die so that Lilith's progeny could live. "Now, erase me from this world.
The second book of Enoch refers to Adam as the Second Angel. In NGE, Adam is the First Angel, and Lilith, not Adam, is the Second Angel. However, all humans descend from the Second Angel, whether Adam in Enoch, or Lilith in Evangelion.

In Evangelion, Kaworu is that son. He is a blatant Christ figure. His death is a sacrifice that leaves humanity with a hold on the future. As he tells Shinji in Episode 24, “This is my wish.
She replied with “disgusting”, apparently meaning that she would think she was disgusting as much as her hypothetical abuser was. Anno replied “I thought as much”, apparently with a disappointed tone in his voice, but they used the way Miyamura said “kimochi warui” in that conversation as the direction for the line.
Lilith was kept crucified on a giant cross in the deepest and most secret level of Nerv HQ, Terminal Dogma, and used as a renewable source of LCL for the Evangelion Units (LCL in fact being Lilith's blood).
Kaworu Nagisa is the First and Thirteenth Angel in the Rebuild continuity. No angelic name has been revealed for him. Kaworu appears in a more major role in Evangelion 3.0. As Asuka and Eva-02 to Earth with the recovered Eva-01, he states he has been waiting for Shinji.
The descendants of Adam want to merge with him, which is why they attack Tokyo-3, they believe Adam is stored in Terminal Dogma (note that the only time an Angel attacks anywhere other than Tokyo-3, it's the fleet transporting EVA-02 to Tokyo-3, and it just so happens that Kaji is smuggling Adam to Tokyo-3 at the time.
Later on, however, in chapter 75 of the manga, Shinji admits that he was “attracted to” Kaworu all along, even though “a guy shouldn't like another guy like that.” Sadamoto wasn't just inventing this attraction as a new twist in their relationship.
He is ignorant of many social customs, and considers himself to be close friends with Shinji. Later, however, Kaworu confides to Shinji that he is really the 17th Angel, Tabris. In the final volume, Kaworu sacrifices himself in order to save Shinji, taking Yui Ikari's place in the Tree of Y'ggdrasil.
Finally we see Shinji choking Asuka to confirm his own existance to which Asuka responds with caressing his face similar to his mother and expresses her disgust at the situation that they ended up in.
So, by sending Kaworu, they hope to push one of the EVA pilots too far; when Shinji breaks, his mind is in exactly the right shape to set off 3I - in other words, they make him into their tool - their instrumentality.
The thing you are missing from your analysis is that after Misato kisses Shinji she says that she would give the rest of it later (a.k.a. sex). This was to push Shinji to go into Unit-01 and fight to defend NERV. Oh yes I know she offered him sex, and that'd she die soon after Shinji left her.
Kaworu, like all the other Angels, wants to return to Adam (this has other implications for the overall themes of parental dependence in the series). However, he also loves the Lilin, and is sympathetic to the pain they face as part of their existence (fruit of life vs. fruit of wisdom).
Eve is known also as Adam's wife. According to the second chapter of Genesis, Eve was created by God (Yahweh) by taking her from the rib of Adam, to be Adam's companion.

Rei II is introduced in the first episode and appears in the most episodes of the incarnations. She dies when she sacrifices herself and Unit-00 to destroy Armisael in episode 23.
Eventually, Ritsuko reveals that Rei is in fact part of a series of clones of Shinji's mother Yui, and in fact has three iterations throughout the series. Later in End of Evangelion, Rei joins with Lilith and starts Third Impact, relinquishing control of Instrumentality to Shinji.
Soul. The identity of the soul contained in Eva-00 is never directly stated, but analysis of various clues and hints dropped through the series points to it being the soul of Rei 1, the first Rei Ayanami clone (or a part thereof). For more in-depth analysis, see "Eva-00's soul".
In Sadamoto's manga, Adam plays the exact same role as in the television series. However, it is shown that Gendo devours the Adam embryo whole, and later sprouts an eye on his palm, granting him the ability to deploy a defensive A.T. Field; something that was never shown in Neon Genesis Evangelion.
First, Asuka was killed by the mass production Evas, but during the Third Impact, all of humanity - both the living and the deceased - were merged together. Since Asuka and Shinji decided to return to their physical forms, she is alive at the end of The End of Evangelion - “Disgusting.”
She died in 2004 as a result of her Contact Experiment with Unit-01, but her spirit lives on within the Eva as eternal proof of humanity's existence. Though seldom seen in Lilin form, Yui Ikari is one of the most powerful presences in the series.
NERV created the EVAs to fight off the Angel threat, but the EVAs are more similar to Angels than machines, as each was grown from samples of the First Angel, Adam, after it was destroyed during the "Contact Experiment."
