Start by putting your camera into Shutter Priority modeand choosing a shutter speed of 1/500 of a second. This is agood starting point and should be fast enough for mostsports and action. If possible, take a fewtest shots before the main event starts so that you cancheck how sharp they are.
Here goes:
- Shooting Mode: Aperture Priority.
- F-stop: f/2.8.
- Shutter Speed: 1/1000 of a second or faster.
- ISO: Bright Sunny Day Games: 100 ISO.
- White Balance: Auto for day and night games, but I adjust it ifit looks funky at night or if I'm shooting in a dome.
- Focus Mode: AI Servo (Continuous Focus Mode on Canonbodies)
Camera blur simply means that the camera moved while theimage was being taken, resulting in a blurry photo. The mostcommon cause of this is when a photographer mashes down the shutterbutton because they are excited. So if you're using a 100mm lens, then your shutter speed should be 1/100.
The preferred camera bodies for modern sportsphotography have fast autofocus and high burst rates, typically8 frames per second or faster. The current flagship sportscameras produced by Canon and Nikon are the Canon EOS-1D X MarkII and the Nikon D5; these are popular in professional sportsphotography.
Most entry-level and mid-price DSLRs and mirrorlesscameras sport an APS-C sized sensor, with the physical dimensionsof these measuring around 23.6 x 15.7mm.

Despite a robust offering on the video side of things,it does lack a few of today's more popular features. Overall, theCanon 80D is still an excellent multimedia DSLR, but shouldit earn a spot in your camera bag?
The Canon 80D, and the crop sensor cameras thatshare its sensor have some of the best APS-Clow-light performance around. Basically, if imagequality is your concern, in low-light we would takethe 80D.
The 80D, even though it is an APS-C sensor, hasmore resolution than the rest of the current EOS full frameDSLRs. With a higher pixel count on its sensor, the 80D isexpected to out resolve the 70D, and it does.
The best way to capture action with the Canon80D is to shoot in Shutter-priority, choose a fast shutterspeed, and set the camera's release mode to continuousshooting and autofocus to AI Servo. Start off with a shutterspeed between 1/250th of a second and 1/500th of asecond.
Rotate the Main dial or Quick Control dial toadjust the setting. You also can tap thef-stop or shutter speed to display a screen with asetting scale; drag your finger along the scale or tap thearrows above it to adjust the setting. Press thereturn arrow or the Set button to exit thescreen.
Prepare to Use High ISO
Professional sports photographers use a shutterspeed of around 1/1000 of a second to stop motion. During the daythis is simple. At night however, you may need a faster FStop than your lens is suited for. To compromise, you increase theISO (what used to be film speed) of yourcamera.Recommended Settings: Shooting with with the Canon EOS80D
- Set dial on top left of the 80D to manual mode.
- Flip rear switch (with the start/stop label) to videomode.
- Set shutter speed with dial at top left to 1/50.
- Be sure ISO is not on auto.
The latest entry-level DSLR released fromCanon, the SL2, is one with some very interesting features. The Canon 80D is another camera which has had this sameautofocus system for some time now and Canon is now bringingit to their entry-level DSLRs. This makes theCanon SL2/200D very good value for money.

Canon T7i Video Sample
Overall, video quality from the T7i isgood thanks to generally reliable automatic exposure, autofocus performance and a useful array of videorecording modes. Canon EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM at18mm (29mm eq.), f/8.0, 3.2s, ISO 100.Both these cameras are powered by a 24.2megapixel APS-C CMOS sensor. That means when you mount alens designed for the full-frame sensor on to theRebel T7i (or for that matter any Rebel seriescamera) the effective focal length will becomelonger.
