A “chili sauce” uses capsaicin too, and was most likely created using similar processes, but it also contains fleshy bits of the chili pepper in addition to other ingredients. Chili sauces are therefore thicker and richer in texture. Sriracha and Thai sweet chili sauce are great examples of popular chili sauces.
Cocktail sauce makes a great alternative to chili sauce because it has a tang similar to that of chili sauce. In addition, you can typically find a wide range of spice levels in cocktail sauces. And to use it in place of chili sauce, you most likely will want to choose one of the spicer varieties.
My family had been enjoying Bennett's Chili Sauce for decades, so when Bay Valley Foods quietly discontinued it in 2019 after more than 50 years of production, I set out on a quest to find a reasonable substitute.
In fact, if you're out of chili-garlic sauce, you CAN use Sriracha as a substitute, but it isn't quite the same in texture and flavor. It uses only 4 main ingredients, aside from salt and pepper – chili peppers, garlic, sugar and vinegar.

Roasted Chilli Paste in Soya Bean Oil (chilli jam or nahm prik pao in Thai) is made primarily from roasted red chilis and ground dried shrimp. It is often added to soups (esp. Tom Yum) and stir-fries with vegetables, meats and seafood, noodle dishes and sauces for salads.
It could also be that you have put the jam into jars before it has had time to cool slightly and thicken. You need to let the jam stand for 30 to 40 minutes, stirring occasionally, so that it becomes more viscous and the pepper flecks are suspended throughout the jam.
The chillies will last well for about 6 months in a freezer. Usually, it's best to use fresh vegetables and fruit within 3 months, but chillies seem to last a little longer. If the prepared pods were frozen as described they should not be watery or mushy when they are used in cooking.
In addition to the amount of sodium, the garlic and chilis in sriracha could trigger heartburn. Or some people might experience gastrointestinal disturbances — like nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and diarrhea — from eating chilis, so it's not for everyone.
It's actually significantly less hot than a jalapeñoAccording to the benchmark of all things spicy, the Scoville scale, Sriracha scores 2,200 points.
Sriracha is much spicier than Franks sauce, much less acidic and has a different flavor profile (more funk and garlic notes). Sriracha comes in at around 2,200 on the scoville scale, Franks about 450, so there is a very significant difference in heat. A pure sriracha recipe would be much spicier than a pure franks.
The garlic in sriracha may also be beneficial to heart health. One study on garlic suggests that consuming the ingredient may lower cholesterol and triglyceride levels. This effect is thought to help people who are already at risk of cardiovascular disease.
McCormick Gourmet Sriracha Seasoning brings the popular hot sauce to life as a dry seasoning. Made with the iconic blend of red chili peppers, garlic and vinegar, a dash adds spicy-hot, tangy flavor to chicken wings, noodle bowls and other Asian dishes.

What is Sambal Oelek? While Sriracha is distinctly Thai, Sambal Oelek is Indonesian, and it is essentially a raw chili paste that is ground. It uses very few ingredients, traditionally red chili peppers, vinegar and salt.
Spicy peppers, like the kinds used to make hot sauce, can increase your stomach's acidity and encourage inflammation in your stomach lining. For people who are already prone to heartburn, eating hot sauce can increase your risk.
How does sriracha taste? The taste varies by brand, but generally it's tangy-sweet with a kick of garlic. Also, it's spicy. (It's a hot sauce afterall!)
