Gunna's 'Wunna' Album Enters Platinum TerritoryOn Saturday (May 9), ChartData reported the Billboard 200 Chart-topping, 26-track album has breached the one million sales mark, opening the inevitable gateway for the album to be certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).
Gunna finally explains the meaning of "WUNNA." The "Sold Out Dates" rapper has been playfully referring to himself as Wunna and fans have also started calling him that, but he officially breaks down the meaning. According to him, WUNNA is actually an acronym for Wealthy Unapologetic N***a Naturally Authentic.
The album debuted atop the Billboard 200 with roughly 197,000 total album-equivalent units and held the No. 1 spot for five nonconsecutive weeks. My Turn reportedly raked in over $19 million during the year and became the first 2020 project to go multi-platinum.
Eternal Atake debuted atop the US Billboard 200 dated March 21, 2020, with 288,000 album-equivalent units (including 9,000 pure album sales). The album earned 400 million US streams in its first week, which was the fourth-largest streaming debut at the time of its release.
The discography of American rapper Gunna consists of two studio albums, five mixtapes, 35 singles, 46 other charted songs and 93 guest appearances.
The deluxe Wunna offers eight new tracks, including features from Future, Lil Uzi Vert, and Yak Gotti. Gunna has shuffled these new songs into a new version of the original tracklist, with most of the new songs loaded toward the front. Hear the resulting 26-track, 70-minute behemoth below.
The cover depicts Gunna as the iconic Vitruvian Man alongside a reinterpretation of his Natal Chart based on his exact time and place of birth. Midyan tells us that they “actually had a physical doll of WUNNA made” for the single cover of the album's title track.
The "deluxe" version has more perceived value, so it can command a higher price. So those with more money will pay a few extra dollars for it. And collectors will have to have it (especially if it has an extra track) even though they have the original.
They Can Exist In Many Different ContextsThe most common option is to simply release an EP and let it exist as a standalone product, and that's perfectly fine. You can also extend the life of a previously-released record by attaching an EP's-worth of new music onto it and re-releasing it as a deluxe edition.
A regular albuM is the first version released, without extra songs. The deluxe version, on the other hand, is released years after and has a lot of extras: 2 or 3 CDs with unreleased songs, remixes, rehearsal versions and live versions, liner notes, extra photos and sometimes a DVD.
notably luxurious, elegant, or expensive
The Deluxe versions have usually more songs and the instrumentals on it. And the 'normal' ones got only the essential tracks on the album.
mainly a way to get sales while also giving fans an extra song or two. Sometimes artists release a ton more music on the deluxe as well sometimes months/weeks after to keep it on the charts. Trippie Redd did this, he released an album in the fall then a deluxe in February to keep it on the charts.
Typically the special edition comes with some extra content for the game. The standard edition of the game and the Deluxe edition of the game are exactly the same, except that the Deluxe edition gave you access to 5 extra items in the game (an extra gun, an extra grenade type, etc.).
The deluxe edition comes with cheese and pickles.. It's just a way to get songs which would previously have been released as b-sides out to the fans. If people had bought each of the singles to get the added tracks it would have cost more than buying the deluxe edition.
Lil Uzi Vert Credited With Starting The Deluxe Album Trend By Generation Now's Don Cannon. Don Cannon thinks his label's star Lil Uzi Vert deserves credit for 2020's deluxe edition trend in Hip Hop. In an interview with Complex, the Generation Now co-founder claimed other artists are following Uzi's lead.
