Valves have many uses, including controlling water for irrigation, industrial uses for controlling processes, residential uses such as on/off and pressure control to dish and clothes washers and taps in the home. Even aerosols have a tiny valve built in. Valves are also used in the military and transport sectors.
The Butterfly valve is used to regulate and control, throttle the flow. They are featured by a fast operation and low-pressure drop. To make an open position from the closed, it requires only a quarter turn. Wafer, lug, Single-Flange, Flange are the regular types of butterfly valves.
The valves prevent the backward flow of blood. These valves are actual flaps that are located on each end of the two ventricles (lower chambers of the heart). They act as one-way inlets of blood on one side of a ventricle and one-way outlets of blood on the other side of a ventricle.

A relief valve or pressure relief valve (PRV) is a type of safety valve used to control or limit the pressure in a system; pressure might otherwise build up and create a process upset, instrument or equipment failure, or fire.
Both are relief valves but serves different conditions. PRV is used when dealing with liquids and opens gradually with gradual increase in pressure whereas PSV is used when dealing with incompressible fluids especially gas phase where the opening must be spontaneous with the sudden increase in pressure.
Pressure reducing valves are devices that work directly to slow down the pressure of water flowing into your home. They are installed on the main water line next to the shut-off valve. Water from the water main goes into the valve on one side.
A Pressure Safety Valve (PSV) is a type of valve used to quickly release gasses from equipment in order to avoid overpressurization and potential process safety incidents. PSVs are activated automatically when pressure exceeds prescribed pressure limits in order to return equipment pressure to a safe operating level.
Blowdown. Blowdown is the difference between the set pressure and the reseating pressure of a safety or relief valve, expressed as a percentage of a set pressure or pounds per square inch.
Set pressure (PSIG)
The set pressure, which is measured in pounds per square inch (PSIG), is the pressure at which a safety or pressure relief valve opens. The set pressure of the valve must not exceed the maximum allowable working pressure (MAWP) of the boiler or other vessel.Superimposed pressure is the pressure in the discharge header before the pressure relief valve opens. Depending on the system, superimposed back pressure can be constant or variable. Built-up back pressure. Built-up back pressure is the pressure that develops as a result of flow after the pressure relief valve opens.
Damage caused by a faulty pressure relief valve
Oil pump pressure relief valves can fail in either the open or closed position. This can cause damage to the engine oil filter and to the engine itself. A pressure relief valve that is stuck open can allow too much oil to bleed off.A Relief Valve is a pressure relief device actuated by inlet static pressure having a gradual lift generally proportional to the increase in pressure over opening pressure. Pressure relief valve leaks usually occur when the valve isn't properly seated or when the seal is broken or damaged. Leaks can also happen when the pressure relief valve is operating too closely to the set point.
