Red is a primary color and orange is a secondary color. When you mix red and orange together, you technically get the color called red-orange. The more red you add the redder it will get, and the more orange you add the more orange it will get.
By mixing a primary and a secondary color (for example, red and green) or two secondary colors (for example, orange and green) you get a tertiary color. Especially when you mix secondary colors, you usually get muddy colors like brown, gray, and black.
Mixing purple and orange together creates various hues of brown depending on the amount of orange and purple used. Adding more orange brightens the shade of brown due to the red and yellow primary colors. Adding additional purple darkens the shade of brown due to the red and blue primary colors.
Orange is a secondary color. To mix orange, you need to combine yellow and red (primary colors). If you want to mix a vivid orange, then you need to use a yellow and red which do not contain any traces of blue. Remember, when you mix three primary colors together, you get a tertiary color.
You could use it together with other shades of orange and yellow for a fun and fruity color scheme, contrast it with striking purples, or calm it down with other earthy hues. Yellow orange also looks great with light blue, which is its complementary color on the color wheel.
Secondary colors are colors you can make with two of these primary colors. So mixing yellow and cyan makes green, cyan and magenta makes blue and magenta and yellow makes red, so there you have it.
There is nothing you can mix with white to produce a hue (primary and secondary colors). Red and Yellow make orange, a secondary color, the primaries being yellow, red and blue. Unless you are using quality paints, it's difficult to mix a good orange, green or purple.
Purple Mixed With GreenThis turned into a nice chocolate brown aubergine color. I sometimes struggle to make a nice brown paint, but this one worked great. Probably because it was mostly blue (green is blue and yellow, purple is blue and red) so there is a lot blue, some yellow and some red in that mix!
Blue is a primary color and as such we aren't able to create it in its pure form by mixing colors together. However, we are able to create different shades of blue colors through the art of color mixing!
The primary colors of light are red, green, and blue. If you subtract these from white you get cyan, magenta, and yellow. Mixing the colors generates new colors as shown on the color wheel, or the circle on the right. Mixing these three primary colors generates black.
What Colors Make Green? It is pretty common knowledge that yellow and blue make green. If you are not familiar with basic color mixing, then a simple way to think about it is if you mix two colors, then the color you get will usually be between those colors on the color wheel.
Pink and green mixture will make a brown or gray. More pink will give you a browner tone, more green will give you a grayer tone.
A small amount of black to a generic orange will only tint the orange darker. If it is a lot of black, let's say one part black to one part orange you will get a very dark brown.
As complementary colors, orange and blue will pair beautifully in virtually any home design. Whether the two colors are paired alone and comprise the entire palette, or they are simply two parts of a “patchwork” palette, they will always be grounding combination.
However, all preconceived notions aside, these two shades look amazing together, as blue and orange are complementary (across from each other on the color wheel) hues. Pairing a punchy orange with a cool blue shade creates a perfectly balanced and stylish look.
So blue and purple would be blue violet. Mixing blue and purple requires you to mix a primary color with a secondary color. Mixing these colors together creates the tertiary color blue-violet. Blue and red result in purple.
Orange mixed with a neutral gray will make brown, but it can range from a milk chocolate brown all the way to a golden tan brown depending on the ratio and shade of color.
