Before attempting to rescue a baby bird, you must make sure it is truly orphaned. Observe a nest you THINK might be abandoned for 2 hours before rescuing. Parents may fly in and out of nest within seconds while feeding. Nestlings can live 24 hours without food.
This is a complete food for the baby bird. If you do not have Exact, then mix a raw egg yolk with the baby food beef. Crack the egg over a sink and let the white run out. If the bird is older and has all his feathers, as in the photo above, you can feed moistened dog food.
Once the bird begins to eat on its own, start cutting down on hand feeding. If you happen to be rehabilitating older birds of the same or similar species, moving the babies in with the older birds is a great way to teach a baby bird how to eat on its own.
You need to encourage the bird to eat by force-feeding. Grip the edges of the beak with your index finger and thumb and squeeze gently to stimulate the bird to open its mouth. Then tuck the food to the back of the throat.
Chicks less than one week old should be fed 6 - 10 times per day (every 2-3 hours). In the first week of life, some feeding during the night may be beneficial. Chicks who have not yet opened their eyes may take 5 - 6 feedings per day (every 3-4 hours).

The word bulbul derives from Persian or Arabic (????), meaning nightingale, but in English, bulbul refers to passerine birds of a different family.
Behavior and reproduction: The common bulbul is monogamous and has been observed to mate for life. Birds pair through a preening ceremony and duet singing. Two to five eggs are laid in a shallow, thin, cup-like nest in a bush or shrub, and the bird lays eggs twice in a season.
In a few species the differences are so great that they have been described as functionally different species. Bulbuls are highly vocal, with the calls of most species being described as nasal or gravelly.
In traditional feng shui applications, birds are considered powerful symbols of new opportunities that are there for you, even in times of adversity. Birds can also symbolize love and commitment (as in the case of Mandarin ducks), or abundance and good luck (as in the case of the peacock).
Pycnonotus cafer or the Red-vented Bulbul is a common Indian city and shrub-land bird that has adapted to life in the fast lane of urban India. It nests in shrubs and short trees, lives on fruit and insects and is flourishing despite habitat challenges.
Bulbuls eat a wide range of foods, ranging from fruit to seeds, nectar, small insects and other arthropods and even small vertebrates.
Bulbuls have rather short, rounded wings, a long tail, small, relatively delicate legs and feet, a small, slender bill, and prominent bristles about the base of the top mandible (these are known as rictal bristles). The body size of bulbuls ranges from 6-11 in (15-28 cm).
The cyclone has been named 'Bulbul'—a name suggested by Pakistan. Currently over 700 km away from the east coast of India, the storm is very likely to move north-northwestwards towards West Bengal and Bangladesh coasts.
Cyclone Bulbul is now centred over northwest Bay of Bengal, about 95 km east-northast of Paradip and 140 km south-southwest of Balasore in Odisha, Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre said.
Bulbuls are native to much of Africa, the Middle East, tropical Asia, and Indonesia. The Wikipedia entry says bulbul comes from an Arabic word meaning “nightingale” (which bulbuls are not).
