The finished needlepoint should be tensioned over a sturdy preservation-quality board by lacing. Cross-stitch on lighter fabric may be laced with cotton thread or pinned with rustproof pins to a sturdy board. Needlework should never be permanently affixed with glue, tape, or other adhesive.

To end a thread without making a knot, use this method:
- Take your threaded needle to the back of your fabric with your last stitch.
- Run your needle under the last couple of stitches.
- Clip the thread.
Sew the needlepoint design to the fabric. You can use a sewing machine or sew by hand, using upholstery grade thread. Starting at the bottom of your design sew just beneath the first stitch line. This technique should put one row of needlepoint stitching into the seam.
Using the hot glue glue a side of the needlepoint and put it into place. Once the needlepoint is on the bag, you will need to shoot the glue between the bag and the needlepoint. I find this works best if I lay the bag flat on the table. You may need to touch up the glue in spots to get a good seal.
To add fringe or trim like mine to an inexpensive rug, all you need is a needle and thread, scissors, and the trim itself. Easy as can be. Just cut the fringe / trim down to the correct length for your rug. I just tucked mine partially under the rug ends to determine the length.
This page gives instructions on how to stitch the five main stitches used in needlepoint tapestry: Half Cross Stitch, Continental Tent Stitch, Basketweave Stitch, Victorian Cross Stitch and Random Long Stitch.
The main difference between tapestry and cross stitch is that tapestry usually involves tent stitches while cross-stitch involves a stitch with the shape of X. A tapestry is a form of embroidery design that has been popular over many centuries. In brief, both these are types of counted thread embroidery.
You will usually not stitch with all 6 strands of thread so you will have to separate the thread before stitching.
If you use a tapestry frame you can rest the edge of the frame on the arm of a chair or sofa and work with one hand pushing your needle through from the back of canvas, and the hand on top pulling through to create the stitch, before pushing through to the back again.
Start at the top left of your canvas or block of colour, and work from left to right in a row before returning, as shown in the diagram. The vertical stitch should be on the 'wrong side' of the canvas, as it were.
Tapestry Yarn is perfect for couching on top of previously worked areas and surface embroidery. Use Tapestry Yarn in needlepoint projects with simple stitches and the same thread textures as in Long Stitch designs or ones with basic tent stitches.
The tapestry is also revealed to be an embroidery, with the two require differing techniques. A tapestry is woven on a loom whereas an embroidery has what is known as a "ground fabric" on which threads are sewn or embroidered to form a picture.
Tapestry weaving is a hand-manipulated technique of creating cloth that involves working with one (or more) dis-continuous weft threads (horizontal threads) passing through the warp (vertical threads) in an irregular sequence to build up rows of woven cloth.
