For all of its fame, the original Cobra was produced in surprisingly low quantities--just 998 were assembled from 1961 until 1968. (655 leaf-spring 289 Cobras and 343 coil-spring 427 Cobras.
Launched by Shelby American in 2014, the Shelby 1000 was the most powerful production, street-legal muscle car on earth. Only five were built. Five years later, more reliable supercharging was developed with Shelby's involvement, and the Shelby 1000 debuted at the 2012 New York Auto Show.
So how many original Shelby Cobras are left? Fewer than 900 of just over 1,000 produced.
The Super Snake is based on the Mustang GT and offers buyers a supercar-like 825 hp, thanks to a supercharged version of the 5.0-liter V-8 that powers the donor Mustang. It featured a V-8 from a Le Mans-winning Ford GT40 and was last sold in 2019 for $2.2 million.
Fearsome Voodoo 5.2 V8 found in the 2020 GT500 and GT350 may suffer a timing chain failure that can grenade the entire engine. As a result, engine timing may be lost. This can lead to substantial damage and even total engine failure.
The 2013 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 takes the top spot in terms of speed. This monster has a massive 5.8-liter, 32-valve supercharged aluminum engine that produces 662 horsepower at 6,500 rpm and 631 pound-feet of torque at 4000 rpm. This is the most horsepower ever produced in the United States.
The Voodoo is a 5.2-liter, naturally aspirated V8 engine from Ford Motor used to power sports cars like the Ford Mustang Shelby GT350/350R. This engine is hand-built and was specifically designed for the Shelby GT350 and GT350R, which is an lighter and even more track-focused version of the car.
The GT500 is a car someone could drive daily to and from an office park. I took my tester to Starbucks and through the back streets of Las Vegas. It's sublime thanks to a brilliant implementation of a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. The DCT manages the communication between the engine and tires.
Engine and TransmissionPowering the GT350 is a naturally aspirated 5.2-liter flat plane crank V-8 that delivers 526 horsepower and 429 pound-feet of torque. The 2020 Shelby GT500 is Ford's most powerful street-legal car ever, making an impressive 760 hp. The GT350R is still a potent player, but it only boasts 526 hp from its V-8. While the GT500 starts at $73,995, Ford says the 2020 GT350R's starting price is $535 higher at $74,530.
According to Ford, the GT500 can do 0 to 62 mph in 3.5 seconds and do the quarter-mile in less than 11 seconds. Its top speed is electronically limited to 180 mph. On the other hand, the Ford GT is equipped with a more modest engine. It's a 3.5L V6 that produces 647 hp and 550 ft-lb of torque.
While it might be fun to throw around the GT500's 760 horsepower and 625 lb-ft of torque with a manual transmission, the only way you'll come close is in the Mustang Mach-1. It also has an available 6-speed manual transmission. That said, the 2021 GT500 lacks this option.

But the Shelby name remains ultimately synonymous with the Ford Performance Division. However, Shelby American remains its own entity. The headquarters are located in Enterprise, Nevada.
“So he had his shop foreman walk from the corner of the Shelby building to the LAX property line and count out the steps. That was 347 steps. So that's when they decided that they'd call it a GT350.â€
Like most of the Eleanors, it has a 351 Ford Motorsport Crate engine, non-functional side exhaust, Lincoln rear-end, Schmidt 17 inch wheels, lowered suspension, bodykit, nitrous oxide kit, oversize tach and Shelby interior.
Despite Iosef referring to the vehicle as a 1969 Ford Mustang Boss 429, John Wick's car driven by Keanu Reeves during the film is really a 1969 Ford Mustang Mach 1, dressed up like Boss 429. Clues that its more likely a Mach 1 include the chin spoiler, interior, hood pins, and hood scoop.

Other than the badge on its hood, the dual-clutch automatic transmission in the 760-horsepower 2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 has more in common with super-sporty gearboxes used by Ferrari, Porsche and the new 2020 Chevrolet Corvette than it does with the troublesome small Fords.
At the time of press, the 289 Shelby Cobra price is just shy of one million dollars. AC Cobra prices have stayed under seven figures because of continuation cars, so they will remain in the shadow of the Shelby Cobra 427 price. When you consider $7,500 for the Shelby Cobra original price, they are a great investment.
Ford stopped racing the car in 2019, but it continues to produce street-legal versions of the GT to this day. Because of its provenance and its rarity—new owners can't sell the car for two years upon purchase—we'd expect the road-ready racer to command a figure north of $1 million.
