This study programme covers a range of advanced beauty treatments, including specialised electrical face and body treatments, and electrolysis. You will also develop skills in general beauty therapy treatments, such as head and body massage for relaxation and stress relief.
How Long Does a Course Last? Course duration varies based on the provider; for example, if you attend college, you'd study for a full a year to get a level 1 or 2 NVQ qualification. If you study part-time, you may study for two years. Online courses are usually a year, but you choose when you study.

What qualifications do I need to be able to work as a beauty therapist?

Level 7 – Postgraduate degreeThis included treatments of the 5 main modalities of aesthetic medicine including Botulinum Toxin Type A, Dermal Fillers, Chemical Peels, Microneedling amongst others. During this process they have also made recommendations on accreditation, qualifications and course delivery.
In simple terms, having a Level 2 NVQ is the equivalent of having five A* - C grade GCSEs. By their nature, NVQ qualifications are very different GCSEs as they display your ability to in specific work environments and job roles, whereas GCSEs display a more general academic achievement.
What is the difference between NVQ, VRQ and VTCT? NVQ – NVQ stands for National Vocational Qualifications. VTCT – Vocational Training Charitable Trust – this is the assessment organisation that will ultimately award the certificate for your diploma in beauty therapy, nail technology or makeup artistry.
To be a qualified beautician you will need a level 2 or level 3 qualification in beauty therapy, at minimum. This is the minimum requirement that most employers seek. It is also the minimum qualification that insurers will look for when offering you Public Liability insurance.

As a beauty therapist, you could provide a range of face and body treatments, including:
- facials – cleansing, massaging and toning the skin.
- applying and advising about make-up.
- eyebrow shaping and eyelash colouring.
- manicures, pedicures and other nail treatments, like extensions and nail art.
The most common ways are by enrolling on to an online NVQ course where the content will be accessed online or by enrolling on to a classroom NVQ course where the course will be taught in an in-person classroom format, at a given location.
How long does it take to study an NVQ? There is no maximum time limit to complete an NVQ; it is designed to be taken at a pace that suits your needs. However, many learners take about one year to complete an NVQ at level 1 and 2, and around two years for an NVQ at level 3.
Can a Level 3 Diploma Get You into University? The short answer is yes. Absolutely. Every year more than 100,000 successful Level 3 or above Diploma students apply to UK universities.
A level 2 qualification is similar to having a GCSE at grade A*–C or 4-9. And also: NVQ level 2. GNVQ Intermediate.
NVQs are competence-based qualifications. Level 4 – Competence, which involves the application of knowledge and skills in a broad range of complex, technical, or professional work activities performed in a wide variety of contexts and with a substantial degree of personal responsibility and autonomy.
A Level 3 qualification is equivalent to A Level. A Level 4 qualification is equivalent to BTEC Professional Diploma level. A Level 5 qualification is equivalent to HND or foundation degree level. A Level 6 qualification is equivalent to Bachelor's Degree level.

In order to gain their NVQ Level 2, students are required to complete a portfolio of evidence whilst working in the plumbing industry. Trainees may either work on an employed or subcontract/self-employed basis.
