Yes it's worth watching if you enjoy mystery of the week anime. It has some plot episodes too, but the story isn't the selling point of the show. (The plot only moves about every 100 episodes. Most of the show is mystery of the week stuff.)
If you want to catch up as soon as possible, skip them. If not, there are some good filler episodes, so I would tell you to watch them. I know this thread has been necrod, but I strongly recommend you to watch the filler episodes, they often contain important information that contributes to the story.
Currently it is around 800, each year they are just releasing 40-45 episodes( very less, even skipping some weekends), it will end around 2021. Conclusion- It is not going to end till 2021 for sure.
The Detective Conan manga is so popular that there is an actual town in Japan known as Conan Town, populated with various tributes to Conan (of the detective brand, not the late night host brand), including a giant statue in the center of the town.
Well yes. He does return as Shinichi in Conan for a good amount of episodes. The first time was the introductory episode of Hattori Heiji.
Although the movies are confirmed to be non-canon, Gosho Aoyama has said in interviews that he's deeply involved in the creation of them and advises the writers. There have been many times where biographical details, facts, and characters from movies are later incorporated into the manga stories.

Well yes. He does return as Shinichi in Conan for a good amount of episodes. He(Conan) has a cold and drinks some kind of sake (not the English sake but the Japanese one) brought by Hattori and transforms into Shinichi for a couple of minutes, solves the case like a badass and reverts back into Conan.

Hints Rumi Wakasa might not be Rum[edit]
She appears to have either her original right eye or a realistic prosthetic which is not apparent to others. The descriptions of Rum were all of a man, but she is a woman.Twist: Conan does not ever get his body back but instead Ran also shrinks. SPOILERS DUDE. NO ONE KNOWS CONAN IS ACTUALLY SHINICHI!!! It's not impossible since it would give the franchise a more convincing excuse to keep the Detective Conan name after the manga ends (they will do it either way, though), but it's 1.)
r/OneTruthPrevails. Who is Anokata? The real anokata is actually Conan himself. He always seemed the most likely since he was in on Conan's secret and also had access to so much technology and information, but has enough time off screen to make it believable that he's hiding something.

Conan Edogawa (??? ??? ,Edogawa Konan) is the alias used by Shinichi Kudo in his shrunken form. Indeed, he took the appearance of a 7 years old boy after being forced to swallow a poison, a prototype called the APTX 4869, by two men in black later revealed to be members of the Black Organization.
Sharon Vineyard (Vermouth)
Vermouth realised similarities between Shinichi (when he was young) and Conan. She also chose not to betray Shinichi to the Black Organisation, most likely because he and Ran saved her when she was disguised as a serial killer in New York.Funimation licensed the anime series for North American broadcast in 2003 under the name Case Closed with the characters given Americanized names. The anime premiered on Adult Swim but was discontinued due to low ratings. Both the manga and the anime have had positive response from critics for their plot and cases.
Conan is able to become Shinichi using an Antidote (prototype) that Ai Haibara synthesized. As himself, he tries to surprise Ran by disguising himself as a character in her play, but is interrupted by a murder case and ends up revealing himself to his entire high school.
