A Neighbour (or neighbor in American English) is a person who lives nearby, normally in a house or apartment that is next door or, in the case of houses, across the street. Some people form friendships with their neighbours, and help them by sharing their tools and helping with gardening tasks.
When "next door" is placed after the noun "neighbor", the hyphen is inappropriate because "next door" must be considered a reduction of the prepositional phrase "at the next door", or even the entire clause "who lives at the next door".
Two years ago, neighborhood social network Nextdoor made waves in the tech world by becoming one of the few technology companies to reach a $1 billion valuation without earning a dime of revenue. The main way Nextdoor makes money is through ads within the feed of comments and questions by its users.

A number neighbor is someone who has the same (cell) phone number as you, except the last digit is one lower or higher.
Nextdoor makes it safe to share online the kinds of things you share with your neighbours in person. Every neighbour must verify their address in the neighbourhood. Every neighbour must use their real name. Nextdoor is securely encrypted using the HTTPS Internet protocol.

next door. language note: The adjective is usually spelled next-door. If a room or building is next door, it is the next one to the right or left. I went next door to the bathroom.
A new social network which aims to bring neighbours closer together has launched in the UK. Nextdoor has been a huge success in the US and was launched in the Netherlands in February. It aims to encourage social interaction between neighbours and make people aware of crime in their area.
Not a scam, but…
Although the method used by Nextdoor to reach new customers is questionable, we can't deny that they did inform their customers and asked for their permission. However, sending out snail mail messages in someone's name is a bit unorthodox, therefore should have been communicated much more clearly.Nextdoor is great for connecting with my actual, real neighbors. We help each other with things to do in our city, business recommendations, lost/found pets, safety concerns, and other issues. When people aren't respectful, other neighbors put them in their place and remind them of appropriate communications.
This is a site for real people, and supporting this concept with contact from a real person when violations take place would be the appropriate action, especially in cases like the real name policy. NextDoor is a great site, but it can be an excellent one.
Meanwhile, it's important to remember that content on Nextdoor is not public. Your posts are only visible to your neighborhood (and the Nearby Neighborhoods you select). And no information about your address is ever displayed to anyone outside of your own neighborhood.
How To Deactivate An Account:
- Sign in to Nextdoor.
- Click your profile picture in the top right corner.
- Select “Settings”
- Select “Account” at the top of the page.
- Click “Deactivate your account” at the bottom of the page.
- Click “Select reason” and choose your reason from the list.
- Click “Deactivate”
If you post a message to Nearby Neighborhoods, your name, neighborhood name, and photo will be shared. Nearby neighbors will not see any detailed profile information unless you explicitly allow it. It is not possible to remain completely anonymous when posting to Nearby Neighborhoods.
I recently reached out to our agency contacts at Facebook, and they confirmed for us that Nextdoor is, indeed, now part of the Facebook Audience Network (FAN).
