The data length is the byte length of the data as it would be stored in the application's data buffer, not as it is stored in the data source. For fixed-length data, such as an integer or a date structure, the byte length of the data is always the size of the data type.
Fixed length means having a set length that never varies. In database systems, a field can have a fixed or a variable length. A fixed-length record is one in which every field has a fixed length.
In object-oriented programming, a field (also called data member or member variable) is a particular piece of data encapsulated within a class or object.

A column is collection of cells aligned vertically in a table. A field is an element in which one piece of information is stored, such as the eceived field. Usually, a column in a table contains the values of a single field. However, you can show several fields in a column by using a Formula or a Combination field.

All varchar data is stored at the end of the row in a variable length section (or in offrow pages if it can't fit in row). The amount of space it consumes in that section (and whether or not it ends up off row) is entirely dependant upon the length of the actual data not the column declaration.
What is LENGTH() in MySQL? One of the many functions in MySQL is the LENGTH() function, which returns the length of a string, measured in bytes.
When CHAR values are stored, they are right-padded with spaces to the specified length. When CHAR values are retrieved, trailing spaces are removed unless the PAD_CHAR_TO_FULL_LENGTH SQL mode is enabled. Values in VARCHAR columns are variable-length strings. The length can be specified as a value from 0 to 65,535.

In SQL Server, you can use the COL_LENGTH() function to get the length of a column. More specifically, the function returns defined length of the column, in bytes. The function accepts two arguments: the table name, and the column name.

Each object has maximum size limitations. SQL maximum column name length limitation is 128 characters.
An address is the logical origin of the data, the address passed between programs to indicate where it is and thus, the location at which the data is said to reside. LENGTH is the number of bytes spanned by the data (or a single entry in an array); its size in IPCS terms.
Counting letters and characters are more or less impossible for a normal text. Even if a site only allows a limited number of characters, say 280 (a typical limit on few popular sites like Twitter), it is still the average length of a normal sentence. It is very easy to get lost in time on something that is irrelevant.
